From Genesis 1:6, where God says let us make man in our own image after our own likeness.
This gives us the very important perspective. From the scripture in John 4:23-24. God is a spirit and if you have to worship him, you must do that in spirit and in truth. So this establish the true nature of God which is spiritual, not physical.
You can see in the scriptures, the main mission of immediate likeness of God which is very important in humanity and that is why humanity was created. It is more spiritual one.
Brother Eli is trying to tell us that this likeness is not just defined by us being a human, but it's defined by righteousness and holiness. And also in Psalm 17:15, it speaks of how we are to build God's face as believers in righteousness. Even Ecclesiastes 7:29 also made vision of this that God always made man perfect and upright and you must be righteous always.
When God created Adam he was righteous, he was good, he was holy, he was perfect. This just reflect what God expect of us that is our spiritual attributes. However as you might note he might have decided to suffer for other lifestyle and inversion which deviate from the plans of God which was uttered by sin.
I will be reminded that intention was to create a being that's capable of reflecting or living in righteousness only in life of holiness just the way God did. We have been challenged to keep pursuing this spiritual restoration even though sin is trying to hold us back.
We should adhere with God's original design which is worshiping him in spirit and in truth.
