The teaching of the theif on the crossmade me to understand God's justice, mercy and importance of obedience. Many people use the story of the thief that was crucified beside Jesus as an excuse to neglect the proper way of baptism, thinking that faith can save us alone, or faith is enough.
Bro Eli has already said and explained, that situation was an exception, not the truth. So, the thief's salvation was directly pronounced by Jesus himself. So, today shall thou be with me in paradise. He was only beside the Savior and the lawmaker and they were the redeemer.
Who could question this? But we are not in that same situation today. We are not made beside Jesus on the cross. We are living in a time when the commandment of God has already been given to us clearly. So, we must be baptized and we must obey all his teaching. This is true because baptism became a commandment after Christ's resurrection.
It's a part of becoming a true disciple. So, if we truly believe in him, then we must be willing to obey. The thief was saved by the grace in an extraordinary second time. But we are always given the chance to follow the law of God in full. If you have to choose, it's to rather be baptized and nailed on the cross.
