Hello everyone. I have a friend from Poland, more precisely from Warsaw. He got married here in Serbia and stayed there to live and became a good friend of mine. Last year he urgently needed to get some documents and he and I went to Warsaw together.Something went wrong with him and he had to travel to the city of Malbork. Upon arrival in this city, he suggested that I see the largest castle in the world. Oh, yes, I immediately agreed because I love tours and visits, and only when I can see a real castle. Wow!
Malbork Castle was built in 1274 by the Teutonic Knights, a powerful medieval crusader order from Germany. It was the seat of the Grand Master of the Teutonic Knights and the administrative center of Prussia. Many important decisions for the future of Europe were made here.As soon as I got closer, I was fascinated not only by its size, but also by the multitude of details and the care with which it was built and arranged. Everything is in red brick, buildings, towers and walls. The castle consists of three parts, the High, Middle and Low castle. The impressive defense system includes massive walls, towers and moats that made it almost impregnable.
The entrance fee to the castle is 80 zlotys, or about 20 euros, and it is mandatory to hire a guide or use an audio guide that is available in about a dozen languages. The interior is richly decorated with Gothic vaults, frescoes and reliefs, and perhaps the most interesting spaces are the magnificent Knight's Hall, the Church of the Virgin Mary and the Great Leader's Room.
Today, Malbork Castle is a wonderful museum where you can see exhibitions about knightly culture, weapons, medieval crafts and the daily life of the Teutonic Order. We toured the spacious corridors and tunnels, climbed the towers, but to tour the entire castle it would take 5 hours. Unfortunately, we finished the visit in 2 hours. I was amazed by what I saw.
Thank you for reading and I hope you found it interesting.
