The two most beautiful mountains in Serbia are Zlatibor and Tara. Between them, on the Mokra Gora hill, the famous director Emir Kusturica built this wooden village for the filming of the movie "Life is a Miracle".I often go to these two mountains, the children prefer Zlatibor because it is an inevitable excursion, and my wife and I love Tara and the silence and beauty it offers. This time I visited Mokra Gora and the ethnic village of DRVENGRAD.I told you how this village came to be, so let's see what it looks like and let me tell you a little more about it.
At the entrance to Drvengrad there is a ramp and a security house. There you buy a ticket and get a map of the settlement. Behind the entrance begins the main street paved with cobblestones. On both sides of the street there are wooden houses with sloping roofs. They are all built in the same style from logs and boards. The houses have inscriptions with street names and numbers.On the main street, the main street, there is a small wooden Orthodox church with a wooden bell tower. The church is dedicated to Saint Sava. In the center of the village is a square paved with wooden blocks and carved wooden thresholds and surrounded by authentic log cabins brought from the surrounding areas of Serbia and the Republika Srpska, in the form of skeletons and set on stone foundations.Streets in the village of Drvengrad are named after famous people from the world of culture and science.. Sve ulice imaju imena po poznatim ličnostima. The names of Ivo Andrić, Nikola Tesla, Ernest Hemingway, Federico Fellini, Jim Jarmusch, Johnny Depp, Maradona, Bruce Lee, Pablo Picasso, Che Guevara, Novak Djokovic, Meša Selimović, Charles Bukowski and others can be read on the boards.
Ive Andrića Street leads to the central square. On the square there is a cinema named "Stanley Kubrick". Above the entrance there is a plaque with the director's name.On the other side of the square there is a tavern. Inside there are wooden tables, chairs and a bar. On the wall there are pictures of actors and directors. Above the tavern there is a restaurant. The restaurant serves local dishes.Drvengrad also has a hotel and you can stay there overnight. It's just really expensive. Next to the hotel is a building with a sports hall and a gym. There is a football and basketball court nearby.Events and festivals are often held in the central square. A sign with the inscription "Küstendorf" hangs on the cinema building. This is the name of the film festival that takes place every year in January.
Drvengrad has a system of paved paths that connect all parts of the settlement. There is no asphalt, only cobblestones and wooden fences. At each corner there is a board with a sign and directions. The lamps are wooden, with bulbs in metal frames.
In the center of Drvengrad there is also a memorial with an inscription about its foundation. The plaque says that Drvengrad was built in 2003 on the occasion of the filming of the movie "Life is a Miracle".
You can complete your stay in the Drvengrad ethno village with a ride on the Šargan Eight, a 12-kilometer section of the narrow-gauge railway on Mokra Gora. An adventure on the old steam train "Ćira" will take you through rocky gorges and high ravines between Šargan and Mokra Gora, along a route where the railway makes an unusual path in the shape of the number 8.
