The Redeemer's Health Village - An Unsuspecting Edifice

On today's episode of exploring places, I visit a "gold mine" in middle of a seemingly low-key environment. I call it a gold mine because of such modernization of this place situated in the middle of an unsuspecting place.

I'm currently running my residency in Radiology and this was what made me visit this place. In my centre, where I undergo training, we do not have all the machines for all the diagnostic procedures, so we sometimes have to do certain postings in facilities that have them. This time, I was going to learn about Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) in this facility.

An MRI (Magnetic Resonance Imaging) is a medical imaging technique that uses strong magnets, radio waves, and a computer to create detailed pictures of the inside of your body. It's greatest advantage is the fact that compared to other imaging modalities, it uses magnetism rather than radiation and so is considered quite safe. Doctors use MRI scans to examine different parts of the body especially those that other imaging cannot examine in good detail.

This facility, the Redeemer's Health Village is a new health centre located in Mowe, Ogun State. It was built with the intention of a tertiary health centre in mind. It's located within the Redemption City of God, an expanded camp, as large as a town, and the international headquarters of the Redeemed Christian Church of God. The camp was acquired, and built and expanded as a convergence for Christian believers of all denominations to gather and worship God. I would almost say it's also a tourist centre, because this place is massive in terms of land mass. This same church is also behind the idea and the erection of the health facility.

I was actually quite surprised such a beautiful edifice like this could be situated in such a controlled environment. To make matters interesting, the active parts of the facility itself are actually bubbling with work.

While it's still been built in stages, most parts of it is already in use. The last 2 floors are still undergoing work. It's a total of 4 floors including the ground floor.

The entrance is very very welcoming. The receptionists are sweet people, always smiling and ready to engage patients. This gave a feel of hospitality I would only think of finding in a hotel or premium relaxation spot.

The radiology department is located on the ground floor as expected, because of its proximity to the Emergency and the heavy rigged equipment.

I was even more surprised to see the state-of-the-art machines at the Radiology department.

Their MRI machine was manufactured by United Imaging, a 1.5 Tesla 70cm bore uMR670. In developed parts of the world this might not look like anything too special, but in Nigeria and particulary in the South West, this machine is one among few. For this particular model, I was only aware of one other one located in Owerri, Imo state.

They also had a 160-slice CT scanner also from United Imaging (this was my first time seeing a 160 slice CT). Equipped with low-dose and advanced imaging features, it was indeed a work of art.

I could drool over the technical jargon of how amazing these facilities were, but just understand that these machines are fantastic machines.

The facility is quite large and very modern. I did not visit the wards and other places as my work did not take me to any of those places.

I'll be sure to explore all the various parts of the facility when I have the time and perhaps visit more parts of the camp too. I'm going to be here for just a little period of time.
