Hello friends ! While on vacation in Bibinje, I went with my best man / godfather to neighboring Sukošan. In Sukošan , there are two butcher shops along the main road with relatively fresh meat which we bought for the barbecue.
On the way we went to the town center. I walker through the old historic center while he waited for me at a cafe. At the very entrance to the town center from the promenade , you van see the remains of a former medieval building on the open sea. It used to be the summer residence of the Zadar archbishopic. During the Turkish attacks, it server as protection for the population from the Turks.
The old town center was suirounded by a stone wall, just like Bibinje , but here parts of the wall have been preserved. Part of the stone wall with a passage called "Upper door" also testifies to this. The wall was built by the Venetian between 1468 - 1470 year.
The name of the town Sukošan was derived from the titular saint of the local church, Saint Cassian of Imolese. In later sources, written during the Venetian Republic, Sukošan is mentioned as San Cassiano. Within the old town, where renaissance and baroque arhitekture alternate, is the parish church of St. Cassian with baroque and romanic details, which acquired its current appearance in the 17th.
Although Sukošan also has wild construction of houses and apartments, as in Bibinje, this historic town center with its stone streets resembles a small renaissance town.
On the evening, I took a wall along the beach and coast of Bibinje on the company of my best man / godfather , who was in a hurry for a beer.
That would be all about my holidays on Bibinje. I will be back on the continent soon. Sending you many greetings and enjoy your summer , drazenp972.
