Greetings to all,
there is enough of historic buildings in my area that are forgotten and neglected but are architecturally very valuable. One of them is Brezovica, a late baroque castle located in the southern part of the Zagreb region. It was one of my first visits to the building.
A little bit about the history of the location. The castle was built by Count Josip Kazimir Drašković in the second half of the 18th century. The building is a Baroque structure, with three wings and two corner cylindrical towers. The castle has been owned by the Zagreb Archdiocese since 1912. which uses it as a residence and monastery. In 1946. the castle was nationalized, taken from the church, and became a gardening school. Later, the castle¸inadequate use continued and it was used as a motel, then a restaurant and disco. Since the mid-1990s, it has been abandoned and without a purpose, left to decay and devastation. The confiscated building was returned to the Zagreb Archdiocese in 2007 year , but to this day, nothing has been done about its renovation. So it is still left to constant devastation and decay.
On the edge of the spacious park are several outbuildings and chapels. One of the buildings was originally a gardener's house and someone still lives there, although it looks dilapidated. The granary building is abandoned , it was used as a warehouse. There is a horse stable with a small ranch at the edge of the park.
Here are some photos from our first trip to Brezovica.
View of the main facade from the north side.
Facade in an advanced stage of peeling and dilapidation.
My family captured in front of the main facade.
View of the side Wings of the castle , which have more modest decorations of the facade.
View from the south of the courtyard side of the castle, which is bordered by two wings.
Part of the park and the castle in it.
On the edge of the park is a small riding stable owned by a local association.
There is a former gardener's house within the park.
Another view from the elevated location of the castle towards the stud farm.
That's all about Brezovica for how, until the next post.
Nice greetings, drazenp972
