Greetings to everyone from Bibinje near Zadar. Since I'm on vacation , we went to my wife's family in Bibinje near Zadar this monday. That's why the topic of this post will be this Adriatic town that belongs to the Zadar area.
Bibinje was first mentioned in written documents in 1214. The Bibinje area was also inhabited in Roman Times, which is also proven by the origin of the name from that time, which comes from the name Vibius. It was the name of a Roman patrician who had an estate in the present-day territory of Bibinje.
Bibinje was ruled by the venetians for a large part of its history. The mid-15th century was one of the most difficult periods for Bibinje, due to the beginning of frequent Ottoman attacks and the plague epidemic. In order to defend against the Ottomans, the Venetian government fortified Bibinje with a strong defensive wall and tower in 1468.
Today's Staro selo is part of the former historical Center of Bibinje. The defensive wall is long tome , in its place are new promenades and waterfronts. In the old village there are two churches from that time. The church of St. Roko from the 16th century od especially valuable. St.Roko is also the patron saint of the town itself.
Today, the residents of the town are mostly engaged in tourism , renting out houses and apartments.
Enjoy with my regards , drazenp972
