Heartwarming tale of honesty (not fake or dumb news)

I have been really quiet in the past few months regarding actual dumb news. Why? Well that is because all the news is dumb news now so it really isn't all that special anymore to ID certain outlets that are egregiously distorting the truth or using selective statistics. Nobody is telling the truth anymore and I think most people have wizened up and just kind of tunes it all out. News stations and outlets have completely lost their credibility in the eyes of most people and I only know a handful of people that regularly look at one particular new outlet. These also happen to be the most locked-in people that I know as far as their political affiliation is concerned.

These days, I still look at the news from a wide variety of sources, but I take it all with a grain of salt because I know they are lying.

However, every now and then a "puff piece" comes along that just makes you remember that there are some good people in the world still and perhaps we should all try to be more like them.

The picture above is of Richard Guilford and not long ago he was contacted via Facebook messenger from a stranger asking him if he had lost his wallet. Richard had in fact lost his wallet, but had no idea how or where and it had been over 10 years since the incident happened. It was so long ago that Richard thought it was a scam or blanket message that just gets sent to thousands of users. Richard only had vague memories of the incident happening because it was such a mystery to him at the time that he was completely clueless about how the wallet could have been lost.

once receiving images of the wallet as well as Richard's own ID, he knew the message was legitimate and the person contacting him mailed the wallet to him. Richard was just amazed when all the contents of the wallet were intact, including cash, cards, a few lottery tickets and even photos of his loved ones. Nothing was missing from the wallet.

This story has an unusual twist to it because Richard was an auto assembly line worker at a Ford factory in Michigan, and one day apparently, while assembling a vehicle it fell out of his pocket and got wedged between the air filter box and the transmission. I don't know enough about cars to really imagine what this is but I imagine that this must be a rather tight space for the wallet to remain there for over a decade.

Well one day while the Ford Edge was being serviced, a mechanic spotted the wallet and rather than just pocket the cash, he decided to dig into the situation and find the owner.

Richard had received the wallet as a gift from his sons, so this was a bit more nostalgic than your run of the mill lost wallet.

Fellow auto worker and apparently honest man, Chad Volk, said he never hesitated when he found the wallet. He was just happy that the person who it belonged to had a FB profile and he was able to reunited the wallet with the owner.

That's a good story now isn't it? I hope that people who read it can remember that we actually can make life better for everyone on earth if we just try a little bit. Be nicer, be more honest, just be a good person... right?

The really awesome part of this story is that the wallet had traveled 151,000 miles before being returned to the owner. I have a bit of history with Ford cars and well, to me that seems like a lot of miles for a Ford to actually stay on the road.

I'm going to use this time to say one more thing. I believe that despite the various stories you hear to the contrary, that auto mechanics are generally very honest people. Is this story proof of that? Maybe.
