Let's talk about alcohol
Talking about alcohol in Latin America is like talking about life itself because, from wedding toasts to that little drink to warm us up on a cold day, alcohol is part of our social fabric.
When we get together, we know that many people loosen their tongues and let their guard down, while others seek it out to celebrate joy or drown sadness, sometimes simply to feel part of the team. Since it is a culture that values closeness and sharing, we know that a drink in our hand is like a passport to camaraderie.
But here we must be careful because this little friend called alcohol has two sides. Just as it can play a dirty trick on you, alcohol is like a social lubricant for stress and can become a dangerous habit. It can cause problems with family and at work, not to mention health issues, as excess will always take its toll in the form of liver disease, heart problems, and accidents.
Currently, here in the neighborhood where I live, one of the most common problems is alcoholism or drunk people on motor vehicles such as motorcycles, which have caused countless accidents due to recklessness and misuse.
And sometimes we wonder why we continue to drink, and perhaps it is because, deep down, it is not the drink that matters, but rather that it is an anchor to that connection and that human warmth that accompanies a good time, because the real challenge is not to let that drink dominate us, to know how to enjoy the gathering, the conversation, or the celebration, and to know when to say, "Enough is enough," so that alcohol remains a guest at the party and not the host.

The importance of being aware above all else, especially when we talk about the consumption of substances such as this that affect the state of consciousness and sometimes the reasoning of many people. We have seen the effects of alcohol on society, and there are still many variations and theories regarding this type of drug and which ones would be legal and harmful drugs and which ones are illegal drugs that bring benefits to society. All of this is a broad topic and can be addressed in conversation or in any topic for debate. However, I hope that here, among the community that we are creating with guest authors' publications, we can continue to connect and share with one another in order to continue building and strengthening those bonds.
