A Dream Come True
Today marks a significant milestone - opening a mini mobile phone repair and accessories shop for my son. This isn't just any business venture; it's the fulfillment of his deepest wish - having a place he can proudly call his office and earn an honest income from his work.
If you have been reading my Duo guest posts, you might recall me mentioning my son's innate talent for mobile applications and computer repairs. It has been great to see him apply these abilities to make some money while he is still studying. As typical business minded person, he aspired to have his own mini-store, similar to that of other people in the business.
The path hasn't been easy. Before this shop, he struggled to handle many phone repair jobs properly. Sometimes, he had to turn down work simply because he lacked the right equipment and tools. He would often visit other mobile phone technician shops to use their equipment; a situation that was far from ideal. He'd wait patiently for shop owners to finish their work before he could use their tools, and of course, he had to pay them for the privilege. Seeing him in this situation always tugged at my heart.
Originally, I planned to invest in a shop for him after he completed his secondary education. But young dreams don't always wait for our timelines. Two weeks ago, when he approached me about opening a small shop, I was concerned about the finances. We needed money for the shop rent, equipment, tools, and inventory for accessories.
What happened next surprised me completely. My boy revealed he had been saving money to buy the equipment, tools, and some mobile accessories to get started. All he needed from me was approval and payment for the mini store he had found.
I'll be honest, the timing wasn't perfect. As we have just moved to a new apartment, I needed enough time to recoup my pockets. But how could I stand in the way of a young boy's determination to build something for himself at such a young age?
So, I made the decision even though it was painful, but I managed to pay for the shop. We even hired a carpenter to build a fitting cabinet for the little store.
Today was his first official day in business, we just completed the shop furnishing yesterday, and everything is now in place. I wanted to capture this memorable moment for this post, but in my excitement, I forgot to take photos. When I called him to snap a picture of his new office front, he sent just one photo. But this is typical of him, because he has never been very much of a photo person.
Sometimes, we, as parents, have to forgo our plans and put those of our children up front. Watching my son as his shop comes into reality makes every sacrifice I can think of worth it. This is more than just opening a business; it is the faith in our children's dreams and the courage to act on them no matter how untimely the events are.
To any parent reading, sometimes the best investments we will ever make are not the ones that we meticulously plan out, but those that answer passionate calls from our children's hearts.
