No Longer at Ease: The Condition of my Town need Urgent Change
Our town has been “no longer at ease," as the title of that famous Achebe novel suggests. The things which used to bring peace and security are now either not there or in a bad state. Such symptoms are bad roads, no electricity, and increasing kidnapping cases.
So from where do I start? Our roads would be the best place to start with. The smooth drive to the market six years ago is still fresh in my mind. Those were the days of heaven, but not now. Now you have to prepare yourself for a bumpy ride on the pothole-ridden pavement.

This is not a joke either. On a good day, this trip that used to take you 5 minutes will be extended to 20 minutes and if it happens to be raining then do not even think about it; the whole area is a muddy mess.
What is the main reason that has caused this road insanity? Only one thing: trucks! The town is situated in the middle of two highways. Therefore, it has become a crossing point for all kinds of heavy vehicles such as trailers and lorries that have not only loaded with cargo but also with weights and have destroyed the lanes with their weights.
Is that what it seems to be right? In fact, to tell the truth, we have been at City Hall’s and local councils’ offices knocking down their doors, to get repairs. But instead, they only say the situation is beyond their control and they transfer the problem to the next level. The problem with that is whether anyone higher up will see our little town from far up there?

Maybe someone will get in the emergency room because of this situation, maybe because they have fallen into one of the craters after one more time. Our streets are so bad that I can’t even find words to describe them. A change has to happen.
What is the use of having life in the modern world if it is not powered by a little energy? power-wise, we are in the dark ages around here. If there is any electricity at all, it is gone in a blink of an eye.
We only get thirty minutes and the lights go out again. And talking about charging phones or laptops is a different story altogether; it’s either a petrol generator or charging station. Are you figuring out the cost? This daily charging is costing me more than half a dollar daily, and it is really piling up on my monthly bills.

The way I see it, it is a very annoying thing. How can children be learning without electric light at night? How can food be kept in the refrigerator or freezer if it is going to spoil? And how can we watch TV at night? If we don’t take action, we would never be able to move on.
I believe the situation is such that our power lines have stopped at the town border and have decided to simply stop supplying us with power. I see that fear of change sometimes overtakes you, but we all are worthy of a far better treatment. This has been going on for a very long time and we have kept quiet. More than ever we have to let the powers that be know that we are not silent by increasing the volume of our voices. We require a change immediately. Phone charging station
The third major issue that our city has been facing lately is kidnappings. It looks like every day there is another story on the news about somebody who got kidnapped at home or from the workplace without their consent. The situation has become so horrible that the relatives of some lawyers and business owners who are well-known have also been kidnapped lately.
Few days ago, two men were abducted from their farms and taken to an unknown location. It took the family members and the community a total of 1.2 million naira, which was paid for each person released from the kidnapper's den to set these two men free.
This growing insecurity has made many residents fearful all the time. If a threat can come at any time, no one can ever have peace. Most of the time it looks like security forces are also invisible. Up to now, all appeals to the government have only resulted in empty promises of "we are working on it."
Of course, authentic and urgent solutions definitely have to be found so as to be able to handle this disaster that has become of the people's minds. A city that has its residents living in fear can never grow or develop during the day. The area is sinking and needs rescue before the fear takes over completely.
In summary, these rants consist largely of kidnapping taking place, lack of electricity, and the terrible condition of the roads that have made things a mess in my little town. It is high time that these concerns were tackled head-on so that our community could become safe and comfortable again. We will keep demanding through our voices until they do something and they take note and show them real results for that will be the moment when stability and normalcy shall be restored here.
