The chapel was consecrated by the Archbishop of Goa and Daman and Patriarch of the East Indies, Filipe Neri António Sebastião do Rosário Ferrão. A rather interesting character, a Goan, he was born in Mapusa in 1953. After studying at seminaries, he became a priest in Goa in 1979. A highly educated and erudite man, he is fluent in German, Portuguese, English, Italian, French, and Konkani (a Goan dialect of Indian language). In 1994, Filipe became auxiliary bishop of Goa and Daman and titular bishop of Vanariona. In 2004, he became archbishop. Filipe is believed to have been the sixth prelate of Goan descent, but the first to serve as Archbishop of Goa and Daman simultaneously. In 2006, the Archdiocese of Goa and Daman became a metropolitan archdiocese and ceased to be directly subordinate to the Holy See in Rome. In 2022, Pope Francis appointed him a Cardinal-Priest with the title of Saint Mary in Via.
Next to the new church stood the ruins of the old church. It looked as if something should rise above the rectangular pediment, but no, there was only a pointed roof hidden by the slab. The old church had fallen into disrepair and decay, and a new chapel building was eventually erected nearby.
But for a long time, the old building remained adjacent to the new one. We just happened to witness this moment. Almost all the houses in Goa are built from these reddish-brown adobe bricks.
The chapel is quite small, but there aren't many Catholics living here in the village. Moreover, there are chapels in both Carmona and Panchayat. The new chapel isn't much larger than the old one, more or less the same size, but it's architecturally more interesting. The old chapel looked more like a simple barn.
The old church will soon be demolished (it already is), but for now, you can glimpse the simple altar through the window. It's funny that the new church building is also visible through the window.
In the end, the old church building was demolished as planned, and now there's a green, empty lawn in its place. As if nothing was there! You can't hide from the all-seeing Google! So the ruins of the old building have sunk into oblivion, relegated to history, and survive only in photographs.

Der Goaner ist eine interessante Persönlichkeit und wurde 1953 in Mapusa geboren. Nach seinem Studium an Priesterseminaren wurde er 1979 Priester in Goa. Als hochgebildeter und gelehrter Mann spricht er fließend Deutsch, Portugiesisch, Englisch, Italienisch, Französisch und Konkani (ein goanischer Dialekt der indischen Sprache). 1994 wurde Filipe Weihbischof von Goa und Daman und Titularbischof von Vanariona. 2004 wurde er Erzbischof. Filipe gilt als der sechste Prälat goanischer Abstammung, aber der erste, der gleichzeitig Erzbischof von Goa und Daman war. 2006 wurde die Erzdiözese Goa und Daman zur Metropolitandiözese und unterstand nicht mehr direkt dem Heiligen Stuhl in Rom. 2022 ernannte ihn Papst Franziskus zum Kardinalpriester mit dem Titel „Santa Maria in Via“.
Neben der neuen Kirche standen die Ruinen der alten Kirche. Es sah aus, als ob sich etwas über den rechteckigen Giebel erheben sollte, doch nein, es gab nur ein Spitzdach, das von der Platte verdeckt wurde. Die alte Kirche war verfallen und verfallen, und schließlich wurde in der Nähe eine neue Kapelle errichtet.
Doch lange Zeit blieb das alte Gebäude neben dem neuen stehen. Wir waren zufällig Zeugen dieses Augenblicks. Fast alle Häuser in Goa sind aus diesen rotbraunen Lehmziegeln gebaut.
Die Kapelle ist recht klein, aber hier im Dorf leben nicht viele Katholiken. Außerdem gibt es sowohl in Carmona als auch in Panchayat Kapellen. Die neue Kapelle ist nicht viel größer als die alte, ungefähr gleich groß, aber architektonisch interessanter. Die alte Kapelle sah eher aus wie eine einfache Scheune.
Die alte Kirche wird bald abgerissen (das ist sie bereits), aber im Moment kann man durch das Fenster noch den schlichten Altar sehen. Komischerweise ist auch das neue Kirchengebäude durch das Fenster sichtbar.
Letztendlich wurde das alte Kirchengebäude wie geplant abgerissen, und nun ist an seiner Stelle ein grüner, leerer Rasen. Als wäre da nichts gewesen! Vor dem allsehenden Google kann man sich nicht verstecken! So sind die Ruinen des alten Gebäudes in Vergessenheit geraten, der Geschichte anheimgefallen und nur noch auf Fotos erhalten.
