The prequel series IT: Welcome to Derry premiered on October 26, 2025 on the HBO Max platform. Set in the 1960s, it explores the dark origins of the town of Derry and the cycle of terror, taking place in the same universe as Stephen King's novel. It serves as a prelude to the films. Welcome to Derry is set in 1962 and is not a simple retelling of the It films, but an ambitious prequel that delves into the root of evil in the town of Derry, Maine, a recurring location in the works of Stephen King, long before the Losers' Club faced Pennywise in 1989. The series focuses on new characters to show that the evil of It is intrinsically linked to the social and political evil of the town.

• Regarding its connection to other works, the series has so far shown a connection to The Shining, featuring characters with the surname Hallorann who share the same power. Meanwhile, the military seems to be using these powers to find a weapon to defeat the communists, without knowing exactly what it is or who it is. More specifically, they are searching for It, although there may be other references to works like The Mist, which already depicted the military experimenting with supernatural forces.

Episode 1 - The Pilot | Episodio 1 - El Piloto

The first episode of the series immediately establishes its tone, uncensored and unrestricted, so we know the intensity of the show and are prepared for the gore, terror, and high-quality special effects and designs that we'll see throughout the season. It introduces the characters, both those who have always lived in Derry and the newcomers, and how they adapt to the town's routine. Several are affected by It while investigating the disappearance of one of their classmates, unaware that most of them will meet the same fate: becoming food for Pennywise. The series doesn't shy away from showing the child's death and everything that happens in the town, or what the evil lurking in the shadows is capable of.

La serie en su primer episodio empieza mostrándonos su tono desde un principio sin censura o restricción para que sepamos la intensidad de la serie preparando a los espectadores para las escenas de gore, terror y la calidad de los efectos especiales y diseños que veremos en la temporada, mientras nos muestra y presenta a los personajes tantos a los que han vivido desde siempre en Derry como los recién llegados y como se adaptan a la rutina del pueblo mientras varios se ven afectados por Eso mientras investigan la desaparición de uno de sus compañeros sin saber que la mayoría de ellos tendrá el mismo que final siendo alimento para Pennywise y como la serie no temerá mostrar la muerte de niño y todo lo que pasa en el pueblo o de lo que es capaz de la maldad que acecha en la penumbra.

Episode 2 delves deeper into some important points such as: the town and its inhabitants, the atmosphere at the high school, and the events at the military base and its members, showing how the town functions from the search for a culprit for the deaths and disappearance of the children from the first episode, more as a scapegoat to blame based on prejudice rather than the real culprit, which facilitates the hunt for Pennywise, while other characters unite or separate because of that brutal massacre, are stalked by It causing them terrifying moments, and the plot involving the military develops, revealing some mysteries and creating new ones, leaving many expectations for the next episode.

El episodio 2 profundiza en algunos puntos importantes como: el pueblo y sus habitantes, el ambiente en la escuela secundaria y en los eventos de la base militar y sus miembros, mostrando cómo funciona el pueblo desde la búsqueda de un culpable para las muertes y desaparición de los niños del primer episodio más como un chivo expiatorio al que culpar basado en prejuicios antes que al verdadero culpable, lo que facilita la caza de presa para Pennywise, mientras se unen o separan otros personajes por culpa de esa brutal masacre, son acechados por Eso causándoles terroríficos momentos y la trama de los militares se desarrolla develando algunas incógnitas y creando nuevas dejando muchas expectativas para el siguiente episodio.

With only two episodes, Welcome to Derry is shaping up to be one of the best adaptations of or inspired by the stories of Stephen King in a year that has seen several, managing the pacing of the episodes very well and leaving viewers with questions to discuss until the next episode arrives, such as:

The cars | Los Autos

The buried car isn't the same, although at first glance many of us think so. The vehicle has several differences, starting with the number of corpses. In the first episode, there's only the boy, and the others were creations of It, although they could be the corpses of the people it later imitated. But the vehicle isn't the same; it's from an earlier era (I'd tell you the model, but I'm not that knowledgeable about cars, although it looks like some variant of the Model T from the Prohibition era). It also has bullet holes, perhaps from another event described in the novel.

El coche enterrado no es el mismo aunque a primera vista muchos pensamos eso el vehículo tiene varias diferencia empezando por la cantidad de cadáveres debido que en el primer episodio solo está el niño y los demás eran creaciones de Eso aunque podían ser los cadáveres de las personas que después el imito, pero el vehículo no es el mismo sino de una época anterior (les diría el modelo pero no soy tan conocedor de autos aunque parece alguna variante del Modelo T de la época de la prohibición) además de tener agujeros de balas tal vez siendo de otro evento descripto en la novela.

Juniper Hill

Juniper Hill is one of the recurring locations in the works of Stephen King, not only in It but in general, and it may have more important moments with references to other novels.

Juniper Hill es una de las locaciones recurrentes en las obras de Stephen King no solamente de Eso sino en general y pudiendo tener más momentos importantes con referencias a otras novelas.

Maturin

Another concept that has caught the attention of many fans and those curious about the series is Maturin the turtle, a cosmic being opposed to It. However, those more familiar with the series believe that these beings don't interact with the protagonists, since Stephen Kin and his terror are based on the helplessness of humans against more powerful beings. The series may not follow that rule, or perhaps it does, considering that Maturin is almost officially no longer actively interacting with the world, or is even dead, or in a similar state for a cosmic being.

Otro de los conceptos que ha llamado la atención a muchos fan y curiosos de la serie es Maturin la tortuga un ser cósmico opuesto a Eso pero que para los más conocedores estos seres no interactúan con los protagonistas ya que Stephen Kin y su terror se basa en la indefensión de los humanos contra seres más poderosos, y que puede que la serie no siga esa regla o tal vez si teniendo en cuenta que casi oficialmente Maturin ya no está interactuando activamente con el mundo o incluso está muerta o un estados parecido para un ser cósmico.

Even so, it has its flaws, and I think the only flaw I've seen in these two episodes has been the use of the same theme for the terror of two characters, which was the theme of pregnancy. Having two episodes with two different characters with the same concept feels repetitive and foreshadows a lack of originality in the horror scenes, as they could have used other fears of the characters. However, other scenes, like the one with the body in the pickle jars, have seemed very original to me for a scene in a market.

Aun así tiene sus puntos malo y creo que el único punto malo que he visto en estos 2 episodios ha sido el uso del mismo tema para el terror de 2 personajes que fue el tema del embarazo el tener 2 episodios con 2 personajes diferentes con el mismo concepto se me hace repetitivo y un presagio de falta de originalidad para las escenas de terror pudiendo usar otros temores de los personajes aun así otras escenas como las de cuerpo en los frasco de encurtidos se me han hecho muy original para una escena en un mercado.

Welcome to Derry generally seems to be a good series that can be watched without knowing anything about It and enjoyed, but it is enjoyed more if you have seen the movies or read the novel.

Welcome to Derry en general parece ser una buena serie que se puede ver si saber nada de Eso y disfrutarla pero que se disfruta más si has visto las películas o novela.
