[ES/EN] Jurassic World Rebirth: And Its Problem with Horror

The Jurassic World and Jurassic Park franchise has a big problem when it comes to developing its story, which is not being able to go towards a more terrifying environment for several reasons, and this is something that is noticeable in the latest film Rebirth, and this is not to justify the film but to understand why it was what it was and despite having its flaws, it was a success and profitable, although not like the previous ones for Universal Pictures.

La franquiciade Jurassic World y Jurassic Park tiene un gran problema a la hora de querer desarrollar su historia que es no poder irse hacia un ambiente más de terror por varios motivos y es algo que se nota en la última película Rebirth y esto no es para justificarla película sino para entender por qué fue lo que fue y a pesar de tener sus fallas fue un éxito y rentable, aunque no como las anteriores para Universal Pictures.

Jurassic World is a saga with many horror elements and this is evident in the original material from which it was inspired, which are the 1990 novels by Michael Crichton, where more horrifying descriptions are given, from the atmosphere of being stalked by the most dangerous beings in most of the animals on the planet to the horror of exploring things that shouldn't be played with, leading to uncontrollable chaos.

Jurassic World es una saga con muchos elementos de terror y esto se nota en el material original de donde se inspiró que son las novelas de Michael Crichton de 1990 donde se dan descripciones más horrorosas desde el ambiente de ser acechados por seres más peligrosos en la mayoría de animales del planeta hasta el horror de explorar cosas que con cosas que no se deberían jugar hasta llegar a un caos incontrolable.

The Jurassic World franchise is a very large one worth millions and that greatly limits the things that can be done and it is not something unique to it, but it happens with others like Star Wars, Pirates of the Caribbean, Harry Potter among many of the best known that try something similar to horror have several obstacles.

La franquicia Jurassic World es una muy grande que vale millones y eso limita mucho las cosas que se pueden hacer y no es algo único de ella, sino que pasa con otras como Star Wars, Piratas del caribe, Harry Potter entre muchas de las más conocidas que intentan algo parecido al terror tienen varios obstáculos.

Since this franchise is an example of what is an action-adventure Blockbuster, that brings things like very high budget and profit expectations, that making a film with a higher audience rating means limiting their profits and changing the genre of the main films and going for horror and suspense which have a PG-13 rating in most countries, meaning that they are designed to be accessible and do not contain extreme violence, gore or themes that may be disturbing to audiences, which can make a lot of the public who expect to see a movie to entertain quietly and often as a family stop watching the new Jurassic World films after that new installment since that commitment to a wide audience is a fundamental obstacle to genuine horror. Horror, by its very nature, often requires explicit scenes, graphic violence, and an oppressive environment that does not suit a family audience.

Ya que esta franquicia es un ejemplo de los que es un Blockbuster de acción y aventura, eso traer cosas como unas expectativas de presupuestos y ganancias muy altas, que al hacer una película de un clasificación de público mayor significa limitar sus ganancias y el cambiar el género de las películas principales he ir por el terror y suspenso que tienen una clasificación de PG-13 en la mayoría de los países, lo que significa que están diseñadas para ser accesibles y no contienen violencia extrema, gore o temas que puedan resultar perturbadores para las audiencias que puede hacer que mucho del público que espera ver una película para entretenerse tranquilamente y muchas veces en familia dejan de ver las nuevas películas de Jurassic World a partir de esa nueva entrega ya que ese compromiso con un público amplio es un obstáculo fundamental para el terror genuino. El terror, por su propia naturaleza, a menudo requiere escenas explícitas, violencia gráfica, y un ambiente opresivo que no se adapta a una audiencia familiar.

Another important aspect is the marketing and merchandise associated with "Jurassic World," which are an important part of Jurassic World and are indicative of its audience. Otra parte importante son el marketing y la mercancía asociada a "Jurassic World" que son una parte importantes de Jurassic Worldy son indicativos de su público. And as many big franchises have had branches to bring more products like in this case the series Jurassic World: Camp Cretaceous where more is explored without affecting the main line of products so much, this can be done to explore that part, although it may also have limitations like with Star Wars despite having many branches in Novels, Video Games and series, none have been pure horror.

Y como muchas franquicias grandes han tenido ramificaciones para traer más productos como en este caso la serie Jurassic World: Campamento Cretácico donde se explora más sin afectar tanto a la línea principal de productos se puede hacer esto para explorar esa parte, aunque también puede tener limitaciones como con Starwarsa pesar de tener muchas ramificaciones en Novelas, Videojuegos y series ninguna ha sido de terror puro.

But what Hollywood and big companies can't do, fans and the internet can do, such as ARGs and although there are several video games or Analog Horror about dinosaurs, some of the best known are those that take advantage of the Jurassic World franchise and its elements like InGen to attract more viewers and that also draw on nature, an element of this type of entertainment and a lot of creativity to cover up the lack of production and budget needed to make a movie or series (Making productions with dinosaurs is very difficult because of the fluid 3D animation) although they have had their moments of terror and tension that have softened or been lost over the films and that are exemplified in this last film as:

Pero lo que Hollywood y grandes empresas no puede hacer lo pueden hacer los fans y el internet como por ejemplos los ARG y aunque hay varios videojuegos, o Analog Horror sobre dinosaurios algunos de los más conocidos son los que aprovechan la franquicias de Jurassic World y sus elementos como InGen para atraer más espectadores y que además se nutren de la naturaleza, elemento de este tipo de entretenimiento y mucha creatividad para tapar falta de producción y presupuesto que se necesitan para hacer una película o serie (Hacer producciones con dinosaurios es muy difícil por la animación 3D fluida) aunque han tenido sus momentos de terror y tensión que con el pasar de las películas se han suavizado o perdiendo y que se ejemplifica en esta última película como:

Where you can see a reference to the classic scene from Containment Door where they present Distortus Rex but it is not truly terrifying due to the silliness of the cause of the situation.

Donde se ve una referencia o la clásica escena de Puerta de Contención donde presentan al Distortus Rex pero que no llega a ser verdaderamente terrorífica por lo tonto de la causa de la situación.

Sinking of the ship | Hundimiento del barco

Another scene that seems like a reference to Jaw or is something very much a part of film culture is the sinking of the family's boat, which has a lot of point when you see the endless sea being rammed by the Mosasaurus, but where no one is eliminated or injured and you know what the result would be by not wanting to kill young people on screen or the father who has too much prominence in those scenes to be eaten.

Otra escena que parece una referencia a Jaw o es algo ya muy de la cultural cinematográfica es el hundimiento de barco de la familia que tiene mucho punto al verse ese mar infinito siendo embestidos por el **Mosasaurio ** pero donde nadie es eliminado o herido y que se sabe cuál sería el resultado al no querer matar a jóvenes en la pantalla o al padre que tiene mucho protagonismo en esas escenas como para ser comido.

That despite being quite tense, seeing that it is from Jurassic World lowers the suspense to the point that if you watch it in a Reel or on Tiktok this scene is very interesting because they only limit themselves to chasing them, but they do not cause any damage to the characters throughout the scene.

Que a pesar de ser bastante tensa el ver que es de Jurassic World le baja el suspenso al punto que si se ve en un Reel o en Tiktok esta escena es muy interesante porque solo se limitan a perseguirlos, pero no causan ningún daño en toda la escena a los personajes.

Distortus Rex

We have the dinosaur protagonist of this film (which does not seem like it due to the short time on screen) with an appearance less of a dinosaur and more of something that can be described as a Kaiju and that is a problem although it does seem like a being artificially created in an erroneous way, reaching this to that genre makes the essence of the franchise get lost and moves it away from horror because by having that appearance it is less attractive to the public which translates into less associated merchandise and with the behavior it had in the film plus how its scenes were made in the film that also seem like a reference to other things but none that highlight the danger does not give the impression of being an evil being or a relentless predator but an animal in a false ecosystem leading to being less terrifying than a bear because you know it is dangerous and if it is going to kill you if it wants to do it.

Tenemos a dinosaurio protagonista de esta película (que no parece por el poco tiempo en pantalla) con apariencia menos de dinosaurio y más de algo que se puede describir como un Kaiju y eso es un problema aunque sí parece un ser creado artificialmente de manera errónea el llegar esto a ese género hace que se pierda la esencia de la franquicia y lo aleja de terror porque al tener esa apariencia es menos atractivo para el público que se traduce en menos mercancías asociadas y con el comportamiento que tuvo en la película más como se hicieron sus escenas en la película que también parecen referencia a otras cosas pero ninguna que resalte el peligro no da la impresión de ser un ser malvado o un depredador implacable sino un animal en un ecosistema falso llevando a ser menos terrorífico que un oso porque sabes que es peligroso y si va a matarte si lo quiere hacer.
