Weekend for reading

@duskobgd · 2025-08-16 19:42 · Weekend Experiences

While I was impatiently reading the topics for this week's weekend-engagement written composition, I must admit that I thought that I would have something to write on the topic of taking a human life (if the life of the one from whom I might take it could be called a human...), but as I would write in the future tense, and thus missed the topic, I switched to a lighter topic, which is very much in line with the post I published the other day.
• What book are you reading this weekend and why?

This weekend is the middle of my summer vacation.
The weekend I use for relaxation, enjoyment, reading, for what I haven't done for a long time and what I really need.
I had to choose a slightly more passive vacation and treat myself to lying down under umbrella, because the whole year was very dynamic and fast for me.
A little relaxation was necessary.

When asked what I'm reading, I thought of the post I wrote last year, in which I presented a collection of books by the Norwegian author Ju Nesbe, but when I looked at it and realized that back in September of last year I bought the book I had just read, King of the USA, I felt a little ashamed.

I haven't found time to read for almost a whole year!

King USA is a sequel to Kingdom, set in rural Norway. The life of two brothers, one troubled, the other a scholar of an American college, told by the older, troubled, with all the stories of abuse, life in a small village in the mountains, dreams and desires, plans, businesses, plots and murders.
The book, like a script of a serious thriller, made me not stop reading until I turned the last page and reached the denouement, which certainly surprised me (I am a weak detective, although I read everything Ju Nesbe wrote, I did not penetrate into his imagination, perhaps probably because I do not know a single Norwegian, nor Norwegian society, circumstances and customs.

As the thriller was read before time, and I didn't bring the last Ju Nesbe book that I bought a month ago (Minnesota), because I thought even one would be unattainable for me, now I have to find a way to continue reading.

It was natural for my partner to speed up the reading of the book she had brought, and that's how the book of the local author, our fellow citizen and neighbor, aphorist and satirist, Bojan Ljubenović, "Srbin kojekude (Serb everywhere)", fell into my hands.

As I read the first half today and plan to finish it tomorrow, it will be a book that will fulfill the xadatu topic, however, it is questionable whether readers outside the region would Balkana to understand what Bojan writes about, I probably wouldn't recommend it for foreign readers (especially since the question is whether there is a translation that would authentically express his words).

Why did I take to reading it?
In addition to not having one of my own, I knew I would laugh reading his stories and experiences that he describes in detail, as well as some of his aphorisms.
But I did not expect that I would laugh out loud at some passages from the book and cry with laughter at others.

I will try to translate some of them for you, maybe you like them.

Finally they say: "Give me fifty dinars for the bill of exchange and be careful not to let your signature go over the white margin." I give the fifty dinars, sign my name, and of course the signature goes over the margin. "That's no good," says the clerk, "give me another fifty dinars," and I give it. "Is it possible that you're that stupid?" I read the question in his eyes. "What do you care," I answered to myself, "for my own money I can be as stupid as I want."

The neighbor's cats under the window are howling like crazy, I ask the wife what this is, she says, that's what cats do before mating. I said: "I've never heard anyone make such loud sounds when mating", says the wife: "I know".

I advise those who send me friend requests and have a dandelion in their profile picture to try my mother's, she likes to talk to flowers.

Penelope Cruz's husband has a belly and is walking on the beach, and the journalist notes that "he's a little neglected, but he radiates charm and energy". I appeared on television yesterday, and my friends say: "Oh, fuck, how big you are, we have to buy a bigger TV, your head can't fit in this one", charm and energy no one mentions.

Recently, my friends advised me to join a website that offers various discounts, so I did, and now I get an email every day informing me that I have a really big discount on a gynecological exam. I didn't exactly imagine it that way, but it seems that gender equality has taken more momentum than I knew.

I believe that people who drink non-alcoholic beer and Coke Zero, ride an exercise bike, and eat whole wheat muffins have great phone sex.

Bill Gates says he got divorced because he and his wife could not grow as a couple anymore. Man, after twenty-seven years of marriage, what's the point of growing as a couple? Just sit back and make a face like you're listening to what she's saying. Every now and then, just say, "You're right, honey," "No, those aren't my socks," and "Okay, I'll fix that," and that's it, damn it, you invented the computer, and you're as stupid as night.

While I was reading these funny pages today, I took occasional breaks for a nap, and in addition to reading, I also enjoyed an excellent selection of music, which I now share with you in the #saturdayselections concept.

Well, imagine: a beach on the sea, a deck chair, a clear sky, the sun, a good book and music coming from nearby speakers.

Lana Del Ray - West coast

LP - Lost of you

Ville Valo & Natalia Avelon - Summer wine
