Luxemburg
Last summer, we spent two days in Luxembourg. I actually had no real idea what Luxembourg actually looked like. The country is better known here as a tax haven. So there must be huge skyscrapers and lots of banks there. And I thought that everything there revolved around money.
But my experience was completely different.
We drove to the outskirts of Luxembourg City in our camper van and parked at a park and ride site. Cost: zero.
There we boarded a public transport bus. The cost there was also zero. Yes indeed. In Luxembourg, public transport is free. Wow. But OK. The country has a lot of money from taxes. And it passes that on to the people.
So again, here's the park and ride area with our camper van.
From here we only had to fight our way through the streetcar networks to get out in the center.
When we saw the streetcars, it was already a highlight. Almost every chair is equipped with luminous backrests. The interior of the streetcar also reminded us of a party bus. There were neon lights everywhere.
And it was incredibly clean. No comparison with the German streetcars. Either people just pay more attention there, or they have constant cleaning checks. My money is on the latter.
Since we didn't take the train this time, we only saw the station from the outside.
Here is already a part of the city center. The city itself is not really big. At least the city center.
The houses there are very well preserved or restored. Well, as I said, there's enough money there.
We also had the feeling that there were mainly tourists on the streets here.
Of course, stores like Chanel are a must in Luxembourg City.
We then went to a small café. The Chap. What a cute store.
Somehow everything you could use in a cafe was gathered there.
It reminded me a bit of my hotel. We also furnished everything with antiques. But there it was even more concentrated in a small space.
No two chairs were the same, but that made it fit again.
Unfortunately it rained that day. Or rather, it was an alternation between rain and sunshine.
We didn't have that much time and only looked at the houses from the outside.
The city center itself is on a very high hill. I'll call it the upper town for now.
Here is the Fondation J.P. Pescatore. A kind of retirement home, if I've seen it correctly.
Right next to it is a panoramic elevator that takes you from the upper town to the lower town.
The elevator is accessed via a long bridge and you can enjoy a magnificent view at the end.
Like every panorama platform, this one is also made of glass.

Once at the bottom, you come to smaller alleys with residential buildings.
We walked along the city wall on small paths around the city.
Our destination was the other side of the city center. But that will come in the next post in a few days.
Letzten Sommer sind wir für zwei Tage in Luxemburg gewesen. Ich hatte eigentlich überhaupt keine richtige Vorstellung, wie Luxemburg eigentlich aussieht. Das Land ist ja eher als Steueroase bei uns bekannt. Also müssen dort wohl riesige Hochhäuser und jede Menge Banken sein. Und überhaupt dachte ich, dass sich dort alles um Geld dreht.
Meine Erfahrung war aber dann eine ganz andere.
Mit dem Wohnmobil sind wir an den Rand von Luxemburg Stadt gefahren und haben uns an einem Park and Ride Platz hingestellt. Kosten: Null.
Dort sind wir in einen Bus des ÖPNV eingestiegen. Auch dort die Kosten: Null. Ja tatsächlich. In Luxemburg ist sind die öffentlichen Verkehrsmittel umsonst. Wow. Aber OK. Das Land hat massig Geld durch Steuern. Und das gibt es dann auch an die Menschen weiter.
Also nochmal, hier ist der Park and Ride Platz mit unserem Wohnmobil.
Von hier mussten wir uns nur noch durch die Straßenbahn Netze kämpfen, um auch im Zentrum raus zu kommen.
Als wir die Straßenbahnen gesehen haben, war das schon mal ein Highlight. Fast jeder Stuhl ist mit leuchtenden Lehnen ausgestattet. Auch sonst erinnert das Innere der Straßenbahn eher an einen Partybus. Überall waren Neonlichter.
Und es war unglaublich sauber. Kein Vergleich mit den Deutschen Straßenbahnen. Entweder die Leute passen dort einfach mehr auf, oder sie haben ständig Reinigungskontrollen dort. Ich tippe auf zweites.
Da wir dieses Mal nicht mit dem Zug angereist sind, haben wir den Bahnhof nur von Außen gesehen.
Hier ist schon ein Teil der Innenstadt. Die Stadt selbst ist nicht wirklich groß. Zumindest der Innenstadtkern.
Die Häuser sind dort sehr gut erhalten oder restauriert. Na ja, wie gesagt, Geld ist dort genug vorhanden.
Wir hatten auch etwas das Gefühl, dass hier hauptsächlich Touristen auf der Strasse unterwegs sind.

Natürlich dürfen Läden wie Chanel in Luxemburg Stadt nicht fehlen.

Wir sind dann in ein kleines Caffee gegangen. The Chap. Was für ein niedlicher Laden.

Irgendwie war dort alles zusammengesucht was man in einem Caffee verwenden konnte.

Ein bisschen hat es mich an mein Hotel erinnert. Wir haben ja auch alles mit Antiquitäten ausgestattet. Dort war es aber noch geballter auf engem Raum.

Die Innenstadt selbst ist auf einem sehr hohen Hügel. Ich nenne sie jetzt mal Oberstadt.
Hier ist die Fondation J.P. Pescatore. Eine Art Seniorenheim, wenn ich das richtig gesehen habe.

Zum Aufzug kommt man über eine lange Brücke und kann am Ende einen herrlichen Ausblick genießen.
