Precisamente, Cuba, una de las pioneras del béisbol femenino, ha contado con equipos que se han colgado medallas mundiales y panamericanas, dejando una sensación muy positiva dentro de los aficionados. Pero el mayor premio, no fue esa medalla de bronce, sino la clasificación al Mundial de la categoría el próximo año. La derrota ante Venezuela por la mínima en semifinales, fue un golpe muy fuerte para las cubanas, que salieron a desquitarse con Nicaragua en la discusión del bronce.

Fue una batalla muy dura, en donde las chicas de Nicaragua estuvieron por delante en el marcador, hasta que en la sexta entrada las cubanas lograron igualar el partido a 7 carreras. Dejaron la mesa servida para que en la octava entrada, usando la regla del desempate, dejaran al campo a sus rivales. La carrera que hicieron las nicaragüenses no fue suficiente, ya que las dos rayitas de las cubanas certificaron el triunfo y la clasificación al próximo mundial.

Considero que mas alla del resultado, hay que mirar por dentro lo hecho hasta ahora. Es verdad, que nuestras atletas están carentes de competencias internacionales de primer nivel. Pero eso no es justificación para no hacer bien las cosas en el terreno. Quizás a Venezuela se le pudo haber ganado, pero el béisbol es así, pasan cosas inexplicables.

Just a few days ago, the Pan American tournament concluded, where Cuba was one of the medalists, finishing behind Mexico and Venezuela. However, the greatest prize was not that bronze medal, but the qualification for next year's World Championship in the category. The loss to Venezuela by a narrow margin in the semifinals was a heavy blow for the Cuban team, who came out to redeem themselves against Nicaragua in the bronze medal match.
It was a tough battle, where the Nicaraguan girls were ahead on the scoreboard until the sixth inning when the Cubans managed to tie the game at 7 runs.
