Hello everyone, I'm @eijnuj06, I would like to share the solution I created so that my family can sleep well during night time due to the constant aftershocks of the earthquake. You may have heard about the news, an earthquake that hit Northern Cebu, how strong and destructive it was. I also shared a blog last time that I was giving help to my fellow earthquake victims in the neighboring area with the Yamaha Snipers Club Philippines group. My family was also one of the victims of the very strong earthquake because our place (Tabogon) is just near the epicenter of the earthquake, just next to the city of Bogo.
After the earthquake, our house had cracks. That's why my family is afraid to sleep inside the house because of the trauma that earthquake might come back or there might be strong aftershocks and the cracked areas of the house might collapse completely.
Because of my worries, I decided to just make a temporary shelter using a tarp. Since there are tarps donated by the private sector that have extended their help, we have something to use in building our temporary shelter. And I remembered that my girlfriend had a tent that was big enough to fit three to four people, so I borrowed it.
So I asked my sister to help me build it. First I put up a shelter using a tarp because my plan was to put a tarp on top first while the tent was underneath. Then I put flooring on the tent so it wouldn't get dirty directly on the ground. Then we assembled the tent, and this is what it looks like.
I also put two bamboo native sofas for additional sleeping space. And we also put foam inside the tent for comfort. And so that it wouldn't be hot in the tent, I put an extension cord from the house to the tent so that the electric fan could be plugged in.
When night came, we slept outside and there was no longer any fear of aftershocks. I slept outside the tent with my mother while our pet dog was next to her. And inside the tent were my sister, my grandmother and my auntie who is my mother's sister who is a PWD (Mute and Deaf).
We felt aftershocks while sleeping but we didn't worry and continued sleeping. I slept very well. This is not the Camping I Dreamed of, But as long as it's safe, I and my family would rather sleep here than inside the house.
I woke up and thanked God for waking us up again and continuing life and always being grateful that the whole family is complete. GOOD MORNING! 🌞
