In one of my previous posts, I mentioned that my favorite sport was **skating**, especially ice skating, and that I had tried to practice it many years ago, although it was roller skating because there are no ice rinks in my neighborhood. Due to an injury to my arm, I stopped trying, and over time it became a frustrated dream, But that didn't mean I had stopped liking it. If I couldn't practice it, I could still watch it, and that's when I started watching different skaters from different countries. I consider the Russians to be among the best in this sport, and a clear example of this is **Evgenia Medvedeva**, whom I have followed throughout her career for many years and who became my favorite ice skater. Previously, it was **Oksana Baiul**, but after meeting her, she took the place of my favorite because I found something in common with her: **she likes anime and has done several routines inspired by them, especially Yuri on Ice!!! And here the story begins.**
--- En uno de mis posts anteriores ya había mencionado el hecho de que mi deporte favorito era el **patinaje**, sobre todo el que es sobre hielo y que había intentado practicarlo hace muchos años, aunque era patinaje sobre ruedas porque en mi barrio no hay pistas de hielo. Por una lesión en mi brazo deje de intentarlo y al tiempo se convirtió en un sueño frustrado, pero eso no significaba que había dejado de gustarme, si no podía practicarlo, sí podía verlo y fue ahí cuando comencé a ver a diferentes patinadores de diferentes países de los cuales considero que los rusos son uno de los mejores en este deporte y un claro ejemplo de ello es **Evgenia Medvedeva** a quien he seguido en su carrera durante muchos años y se convirtió en mi patinadora sobre hielo favorita. Anteriormente era **Oksana Baiul**, pero luego de conocerla, ella ocupo el lugar de favorita y esto porque encontré en ella algo en común: **le gusta el anime y ha hecho varias rutinas inspiradas en ellos, sobre todo en Yuri on Ice!!! I met **Evgenia** during the year that **Yuri on Ice!!!** was released, an anime about ice skating and everything that goes into a perfect routine. She was a fan of this anime and watched it at the same time as me, That's when I felt a little more connected to her art because we both enjoyed the same anime when it was released, and even the author of the series gave her a figure of the main characters and went to see one of her performances. That's really cool. Evgenia doesn't just work wonders on her skates, she flies, she dances, she has elegance and charisma, and you can tell that ice skating is in her blood. She looks like a beautiful swan gliding across the ice, and it's very enjoyable to watch her perform her routines. I've tried to do what she does, and I know how difficult and dangerous this sport is. One miscalculation can cost you dearly. **She has also performed a routine to the soundtrack of Sailor Moon, which is precisely why I became interested in her performances and started watching more of her routines. I discovered that she is one of the best ice skaters I have ever seen, second only to Oksana, who is already an icon in this sport.**
--- Conocí a **Evgenia** durante el año en que se estrenó **Yuri on Ice!!!**, un anime que trata sobre el patinaje sobre hielo y todo lo que hay detrás de una rutina perfecta, ella era fan de este anime y lo veía en emisión al mismo tiempo que yo, ahí me sentí un poco más conectada con su arte porque ambas disfrutábamos del mismo anime en el momento en que fue estrenado e incluso la misma autora de la serie le regalo una figura de los personajes principales y fue a verla a una de sus presentaciones, eso es muy genial. Evgenia no solo hace maravillas sobre las cuchillas de sus patines, ella vuela, baila, tiene elegancia y carisma y se nota que lleva el patinaje sobre hielo en la sangre, parece un bello cisne deslizándose sobre el hielo y es muy agradable verla hacer sus rutinas, yo que he intentado hacer lo que ella hace, se lo difícil y peligroso que es este deporte, un mal cálculo y te puede costar muy caro. **Ella también ha hecho una rutina con el fondo musical de Sailor Moon y es precisamente por esto que me interese en sus presentaciones y empecé a ver más sobre sus rutinas y descubrí que es una de las mejores patinadoras sobre hielo que haya visto, luego de Oksana que ella ya es un icono de este deporte.** ---  --- https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dL3jNyA83SA

I started to like this sport after watching the movie **Blades of Glory**, and a few months later I managed to convince my mom to take me to skating lessons. I tried it for the first time at a club near my house. The first time I put on roller skates, two people had to hold me up so I wouldn't fall. It felt like standing on top of a ball and praying you wouldn't smash your nose into the wall. At the club, I fell a couple of times, once because I was distracted looking out the window and the other because a girl who was skating grabbed me by the waist on purpose and we both fell. **If she wanted to knock me down, she was coming down with me.** Then I tried to practice a little at home. I spent more time on the floor than skating, and I fell several times, but the last fall was the worst because I sprained my arm and had to wear a cast for two weeks. From then on, I gave it up, and a few years later I wanted to try again, but at another club. I was doing better, at least I could skate without falling so much, until life said to me, ***“No, my dear, you don't learn”*** and it hit me again and I hurt the same arm again. From then on, I said enough was enough, and I sold them years later. **That's how the story ends!**
--- Este deporte me empezó a gustar luego de ver la película **Blades of Glory**, o **Deslizando a la Gloria** en español y unos meses después logre convencer a mi mamá de que me llevara a clases de patinaje. Lo intente por primera vez en un club cerca de mi casa, la primera vez que me puse los patines de ruedas me tenían que agarrar entre dos personas para que no me fuera al piso, se sentía como pararse encima de una pelota y rogar no darte la nariz contra la pared. En el club me caí un par de veces, una por distraerme viendo por la ventana y la otra porque una niña que estaba patinando me agarro de la cintura a propósito y nos caímos las dos, **si me quería tirar al piso, ella se venía conmigo.** Luego intente practicar un poco en mi casa, vivía en el piso más que patinando, ahí tuve varias caídas, pero la última fue la peor porque me lleve un brazo esguinzado y un yeso durante dos semanas. Desde ahí lo deje y unos años más tarde quise volver a intentarlo, pero en otro club. Me estaba yendo mejor, al menos podía deslizarme sin caerme tanto, hasta que la vida me dijo ***“No, mi ciela, usted no aprende”*** y me volvió a golpear y me lastime otra vez el mismo brazo, desde ahí dije basta y los vendí años más tarde. **¡Así termina la historia!** ---  --- https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZUnPAqOB7Ks

Even though this dream was dashed, at least I tried, and maybe in another life I can be the skater I always wanted to be. For now, I enjoy watching other people practice, especially Evgenia, because her routines are flawless, she rarely falls, and she does pretty much perfect jumps with grace. Literally, skating feels like you're flying. The little bit I managed to glide on my skates felt very nice. I felt like a baby bird learning to fly, but then I fell badly out of the nest and was eaten by a cat. **I suppose the feeling of flying is somewhat similar to skating and jumping in the air, although there are sports that are practiced in the air, my vertigo would not allow it, so this is the closest I have felt to the sensation of flying and I will continue to enjoy it through these great ice skating professionals.**
--- A pesar de que este sueño se frustro, al menos lo intente y quizá en otra vida pueda ser la patinadora que siempre quise ser. Por el momento, disfruto de ver a otras personas practicándolo, sobre todo a Evgenia ya que sus rutinas son impecables, tiene muy pocas caídas y hace saltos bastante perfectos y con gracia. Literal, patinar se siente como si estuvieses volando, lo poco que logre deslizarme sobre mis patines se sentía muy agradable, me sentía como un pichón de ave que estaba aprendiendo a volar, pero que se cayó feo del nido y se lo comió un gato. **Supongo que la sensación de volar es algo parecida a patinar y saltar sobre el aire, aunque hay deportes que se practican en el aire, mi vértigo no me lo permitiría, así que esto es lo más cercano que he sentido a la sensación de volar y seguiré disfrutándolo a través de estos grandes profesionales del patinaje sobre hielo.**
