Hello, hello✨ Sorry for being a little absent from the community, but since I was on a long trip, I had to take my time to finish the book. But here I am! 🥰 Happy, because I just finished another fantasy novel, and yes… I have a new bookish crush. Quicksilver is one of those books everyone in the fantasy community has heard about, and when a book gets this much hype, of course I had to pick it up. Before reading, I expected it to be a dark, intense, and addictive romantasy (romance + fantasy). And in a way, it is. Not as dark as I imagined, but it definitely has that magnetic vibe that pulls you in and refuses to let go. The kind of book that makes you say: "ok, just one more chapter"… until you realize it’s already 3 a.m.🙃✨

Hello, hello✨ Disculpen por estar un poco desaparecida de la comunidad, pero con el hecho de que estaba en un viaje largo, he tenido que tomarme el tiempo para terminar el libro. ¡Pero aquí estoy!🥰 Feliz, dado que he terminado otro libro de fantasía, y tengo un nuevo crush literario. Quicksilver es un libro que toda la comunidad literaria ha escuchado, y cuando un libro de fantasía tiene tanto hype caigo en sus manos. Antes de leerlo tenía la expectativa de que sería un romantasy (romance + fantasía) oscuro, intenso y adictivo. Y sí, de cierta forma lo es. No tan oscuro como pensaba, pero sin duda tiene esa vibra magnética que te atrapa y no te suelta. El tipo de lectura que te hace decir: "ok, solo un capítulo más"… hasta que te das cuenta de que ya son las 3 a.m.🙃✨

Fae fantasy is at its peak right now (thanks ACOTAR for opening the door 👀), and Quicksilver is not far behind. Here we have the classic scenario: tall, pointy-eared beings with dazzling magic and a dark touch that makes it irresistible. The protagonist, Saeris Fane, lives in Zilvaren, a desert world where every drop of water is a battle and misery is part of the routine. Her life changes radically when, after being caught as a thief, she is condemned to death, and there, on the verge of passing to another life, a mysterious being appears to claim her and take her to Yvelia, because of course... Saeris is no an ordinary human, no, she possesses an ability that is sorely needed to win a war that has been raging for hundreds of years. This book, as I mentioned, is romantasy: the mix of fantasy and romance. It has a lot of spicy, but also a plot interesting enough to make you want to keep reading without pause. Nothing is ordinary here; and Callie Hart drags us into a new, magical world, completely removed from reality.

La fantasía fae está en pleno auge (gracias ACOTAR por abrir la puerta 👀), y Quicksilver no se queda atrás. Aquí tenemos el clásico escenario: seres altos, de orejas puntiagudas, con una magia deslumbrante y un toque oscuro que lo hace irresistible. La protagonista, Saeris Fane, vive en Zilvaren, un mundo desértico donde cada gota de agua es una batalla y la miseria es parte de la rutina. Su vida cambia radicalmente cuando, tras ser atrapada como ladrona es condenada a muerte, y allí, a punto de pasar a otra vida, un misterioso ser aparece para reclamarla y llevarla a Yvelia, porque por supuesto... Saeris no es una humana común, no, posee una habilidad que es sumamente necesaria para ganar una guerra que ha estado en auge por cientos de años. Este libro, como ya mencioné, es romantasy: la mezcla de fantasía y romance. Tiene una gran cantidad de spicy, pero también una trama suficientemente interesante que hace que quieras seguir leyendo sin pausa. Aquí nada es ordinario; y Callie Hart nos arrastra a un mundo nuevo, mágico y completamente alejado de la realidad.

The first thing that captivated me was the atmosphere. I love fantasy, dystopian stories, anything completely removed from reality, and Zilvaren is described in such a way that I could feel the heat of the desert even from my city (literally, because it's unbearably hot here). The beginning of the book is so gripping that I didn't quite understand why Saeris would want to return to his native desert when Yvelia offers comfort, resources, and a world full of magic. Plus, SMALL SPOILER his skill as an alchemist, capable of transmuting elements such as Quicksilver (a term for mercury), adds a fascinating twist to the plot. I liked Saeris Fane because she isn't an all-powerful protagonist who throws herself into danger without thinking. The writer shows us her vulnerability: she is afraid, she knows when to retreat, and she analyzes the situation. I liked the scenes where she didn't act impulsively, but was genuinely afraid and backed off; that makes you connect with her more. It also made me laugh that we had the same doubts; she always asked what I was thinking... sometimes we didn't understand what was happening, but I felt connected to her.

Lo primero que me atrapó fue el ambiente. Me encanta la fantasía, lo distópico, lo completamente alejado de la realidad, y Zilvaren se describe de manera que podía sentir el calor del desierto incluso desde mi ciudad (literalmente, porque hay un calor insoportable aquí). El inicio del libro es tan enganchante que no entendí del todo por qué Saeris querría volver a su desierto natal cuando Yvelia ofrece comodidad, recursos y un mundo lleno de magia. Además, PEQUEÑO SPOILER su habilidad como alquimista, capaz de transmutar elementos como el Quicksilver (Azogue, un término para el mercurio), le da un giro fascinante a la trama. Saeris Fane me gustó porque no es una protagonista todopoderosa que se lanza al peligro sin pensar. La escritora nos muestra su vulnerabilidad: tiene miedo, sabe cuándo retirarse, y analiza el panorama. Me agradaron las escenas en donde no actuaba impulsivamente, sino que genuinamente tenía miedo, y se echaba para atrás; eso hace que conectes más con ella. También me daba mucha risa que tuviéramos las mismas dudas, ella siempre preguntaba lo que yo estaba pensando... a veces no entendíamos qué estaba sucediendo, pero me sentí conectada con ella.

The best description of Kingfisher would be that Xaden Riorson (Fourth Wing) and Rhysand (ACOTAR) had a child, which says it all😂 On the other hand, he's a character who comes across as a bit unpleasant at first; his grumpy attitude can be irritating, but then you grow fond of him. And yes, his name is a mystery, but the dynamic between him and Saeris has that tension that makes you fangirl, and by the end of the book you're sighing over them. It's important to note that, like any good adult romance novel, there is some spicy content, and although it doesn't bother me—on the contrary, I'm one of those who supports these scenes when they are well developed—I don't really like it when there is so much of it. And it's not vulgar spice, but there are scenes or dialogues that feel unnecessary, like filler, and, honestly, I don't like it that way. I don't want to be reading the word “fuck” (in all its senses) every few minutes; I'm not there just for that. I want action, I want to get to know this new world, I want struggle and survival.

La mejor descripción de Kingfisher, sería que Xaden Riorson (Alas de Sangre) y Rhysand (ACOTAR) tuvieran un hijo, eso ya lo dice todo😂 Por otro lado, es un personaje que al principio cae un poco mal; su actitud gruñona puede irritar, pero luego le agarras cariño. Y sí, su nombre es todo un misterio, pero la dinámica entre él y Saeris tiene esa tensión que te hace fangirlear, ya en la parte final del libro estás suspirando por ellos. Es importante destacar que como buena novela de romantasy adulto, hay spicy, y aunque no me molesta -al contrario, soy de las que apoya estas escenas cuando están bien desarrolladas- no me agrada mucho cuando hay tanto, y sin sentido. Y no es un spicy vulgar, pero sí hay escenas o dialogos que se sienten innecesarios, de relleno, y, sinceramente, no me gusta así. No quiero estar leyendo cada poco tiempo la palabra "fuck" (en todos sus sentidos), no estoy allí solo para eso. Quiero acción, quiero conocer este nuevo mundo, quiero lucha y sobrevivencia.

But hey, one good thing about it is that it has some incredible plot twists. I'm the kind of reader who likes to imagine what comes next, come up with my own crazy theories, and a lot of them come true. I've read so much of this genre that there are elements of the formula that repeat themselves, so it's not easy to surprise me. But this book did. Each twist left me speechless and reinforced that I couldn't put the book down until I finished it. The secondary characters in Quicksilver are a gem. None of them feel like filler, and some stole my heart just as much as the main characters. Carrion Swift, for example, is smart, strong, and adds a lot to the plot, but what really won me over was his sense of humor; his scenes made me laugh and feel at ease amid all the tension. Renfis, although in my head he has a more “wild” aura, radiates light and warmth, making it impossible not to connect with him. And Lorreth… Lorreth is the kind of character you silently pray for: “please, don’t die, please.” Without a doubt, these secondary characters elevate the story and make reading it so much richer and more enjoyable.

Pero hey, un buen punto a favor es que tiene unos plot twists increíbles. Soy la clase de lectora que le gusta imaginar lo que viene después, hacer sus propias teorías locas, y hay muchas cosas que se hacen realidad. He leído tanto de este género que hay elementos de la fórmula que se repiten, así que no es fácil sorprenderme. Pero este libro lo hizo. Cada giro me dejó con la boca abierta y reforzó que no podía soltar el libro hasta terminarlo. Los personajes secundarios en Quicksilver son una joya. Ninguno se siente de relleno, y algunos se ganaron mi corazón tanto como los protagonistas. Carrion Swift, por ejemplo, es inteligente, fuerte y aporta muchísimo a la trama, pero lo que realmente me enamoró fue su sentido del humor; amé todas sus escenas, me hicieron reír y sentir cómoda en medio de tanta tensión. Renfis, aunque en mi cabeza tiene un aura más “salvaje”, irradia luz y calidez, y es imposible no conectarse con él. Y Lorreth… Lorreth es de esos personajes por los que rezas en silencio: “por favor, no te mueras, por favor”. Sin duda, estos secundarios elevan la historia y hacen que la lectura sea mucho más rica y disfrutable.

In short, Quicksilver is a book that I thoroughly enjoyed, although I must admit that Callie Hart's writing can sometimes be a little cloying😬 The clichés are there: enemies to lovers, slow burn, forced proximity, and, of course, the morally dubious protagonist who wouldn't hesitate to burn the world down to protect the heroine. Even so, all these elements work in the story's favor, making the twists and magical moments more exciting, and keeping me glued to the pages until the end. If you're looking for an intense romantasy, with endearing characters and fascinating worlds, this book is for you✨

En definitiva, Quicksilver es un libro que disfruté muchísimo, aunque debo admitir que la escritura de Callie Hart en ocasiones puede ser un poco empalagosa😬 Los clichés están presentes: enemies to lovers, slow burn, proximidad forzada y, por supuesto, el protagonista de dudosa moralidad que no dudaría en quemar el mundo por proteger a la protagonista. Aun así, todos estos elementos funcionan a favor de la historia, hacen que los giros y momentos mágicos sean más emocionantes, y me mantuvieron pegada a las páginas hasta el final. Si buscas un romantasy intenso, con personajes entrañables y mundos fascinantes, este libro es para ti✨
