Si vemos de cerca las construcciones más antiguas de mi ciudad de Ciego de Ávila, podemos descubrir tesoros artesanales: las puertas, los picaportes, vitrales, hasta las rejas, están dotados de virtuosismo, autenticidad y elegancia. If we look closely at older buildings on Ciego de Avila, we can discover handcrafted treasures: the doors, doorknobs, stained glass, even the railings, are endowed with virtuosity, authenticity and elegance.
Mi abuela decía que los faroles se adornaban inspirados en los encajes de las enaguas de las jovencitas y que cuando se encendían en las noches…bueno…eran una muestra de amor. My grandmother used to say the lanterns were decorated inspired by the lace of the young girls' petticoats, so when they were lit at night...well...that was a sign of love.
Así voy caminando por las calles, tratando de descubrir pequeños tesoros en cada esquina e imaginando quién habrá sido el orfebre y qué historia habrá detrás de cada rincón. So I walk through the streets, trying to discover little treasures in every corner and imagining who the goldsmith must have been and the stories behind every corner.
