Hey dear community, first of all I would like to welcome you to my new post and hope you had a weekend that brought many interesting experiences into your life! In this article I would like to share something about an experience I had while travelling and am happy if you like the post.
One of the best sights in London is the well-known big ben which I unfortunately could not visit from inside but I was able to take some great pictures from the outside which reflect this architectural masterpiece very well. I have heard that it's maybe possible for people with a British passport to visit it, but I can't say anything more specific about it, but even if I couldn't go in, I was still able to learn much about it that I don't want to withhold. A few of the pictures were taken from outside while I shot the others directly from the London eye and in any case it's certain that big ben is one of the most popular photo motifs in the city and some come here especially because of that. The tower used to be called Clock Tower until this was changed years ago and it is important to know that the name big ben does not refer directly to the tower, but to the upper part to which also belongs the bell which is also extremely interesting. The bell weighs several tons and has a special sound which beats in the frequencies between 300 and 400 Hz and the melody sounds so loud that it can even be heard a few kilometres away.
Every 15 minutes the bell rings and how often it beats in a row depends on the exact time and some media have even oriented themselves to the sound of the bells and meanwhile, it's extremely well known worldwide and on special occasions as well as in the new year thousands of people gather here to enjoy the sound. In total, five of these bells hang there and all were produced during the 19th century which is also considered the timing of the construction of the tower in general and in total the construction lasted over 15 years. Various architects were involved in the construction and Charles Barry is considered to be the original builder, while other people were responsible for the mechanism or construction of the bells and in addition, in the past there were repeated restorations that required various efforts depending on the period of time. It's interesting to know that the tower was later also called Elisabeth Tower in honour of the royal family and Big Ben is in any case one of the most famous landmarks of the country, which from a symbolic point of view is an extremely important sign of strength and democracy. Big Ben is located right next to Parliament and those who should be in the city will definitely not miss a visit here and it must be described in every respect as one of the most important sights of the country which is an essential part of the culture.
Many thanks for stopping by and I hope you could learn something new and like my post and appreciate my effort! I captured these pictures with my Sony Alpha 6000 plus 55-210 mm.
