Hey dear community, first of all I would like to welcome you to my contribution and hope you had a pleasant week and a unique weekend! In my new post I would like to share something about an experience I have collected while travelling and I am happy if you appreciate my contribution.
When I was in London I decided to visit the Tower Bridge which is one of the most important sights of the city and in any case the construction which connects different elements is simply unique. When it comes to technology, it's a combination of hanging and folding parts that were already up-to-date at the time and have been operated by steam engines which have been replaced over the decades by other techniques. The construction of the bridge was already started around the 19th century and after a few years it was ready to be used and who thinks that the bridge is just a monument is wrong because every day thousands of vehicles cross this bridge and also for pedestrians or cyclists there are their own ways. Again and again it was renovated in the past or there were small adjustments and so the bridge also received a blue-white paintwork in honor of Elizabeth II a few decades ago and in addition, there were also improvements of the infrastructure in general. Sir Horace Jones and Sir John Wolfe Barry are known as leading architects, but the countless construction companies and workers who participated are not to be neglected and also many technical consultants were involved and in total, there may have been about 500 people involved in the construction.
Even those who have never been to London should know this well-known bridge and know that it can be found worldwide on photos or other works of art and it can definitely be said that it has developed into an object of desire and there are also films that have been produced here and also on postcards it's very popular. Many visitors do not know that it can also be visited from inside and to buy a ticket, people simply have to enter the bridge and queue up and there are tickets with different time slots to avoid the crowd and the entrance fee for the ticket cost about 15 British pounds which is really fair. The towers can be visited and in addition the engine room can also be admired which can be especially interesting for all friends of technology and who should be there can expect a visit time of one to two hours. It can be freely moved within the towers and before it started, I first received an introduction from an employee but it's also important to mention that there are places like the connection between the bridges which can be a problem for people who are not dizzying-free because part of the floor is made of glass and can be looked directly into the depth. Roughly, I would in any case also recommend visitors to the city to make a detour here and even if it is already a highlight from outside, people should not miss the chance and go into more detail about the technology and take a look inside the towers.
Many thanks for stopping by and I hope you could learn something new and like my post! I captured these pictures with my Sony Alpha 6000 plus 55-210 mm and iPhone 16.
