La historia del deporte rey está llena de momentos llenos de alegrías y tristezas por parte de aficionados, entrenadores y deportistas. Cuba como uno de los países con más logros dentro de los campeonatos mundiales de atletismo, siempre ha sido de competencia y lógicamente muchos especialistas en el deporte dejan un espacio para los atletas cubanos.
En la continuación del campeonato del orbe con sede en Tokio, capital japonesa, nuestra pequeña delegación tuvo este martes una jornada positiva dentro del certamen al aire libre. En la pista, la corredora de 400 metros planos, Roxana Gómez, logró clasificar a la final de la modalidad al entrar segunda en su heat semifinal, por detrás únicamente de la catarí Salwa Eid Nasser, una de las favoritas al título mundial. La cubana estampó el sexto crono más rápido de la semifinal (49.78) y estará en la final.

Como dato curioso, desde 1983, Cuba no tenía una representación en esta modalidad en el sexo femenino, ya que tras el título de Ana Fidelia Quirot, no teníamos ninguna finalista en mundiales al aire libre. Considero que Roxana, desde que fue finalista olímpica en Tokio 2021, ha venido mostrando un ascenso considerable, y tras entrenar todo el año bajo el amparo de la federación cubana de atletismo en territorio de República Dominicana, se siente totalmente preparada para competir en esta final. Ser medallista es bien difícil ya que para esta final, las favoritas son ampliamente la norteamericana Sydney Mclaughlin, la dominicana Marileidy Paulino y la mencionada catarí Salwa Eid Nasser.

Mientras Leyanis Pérez y Liadagmis Povea avanzaron sin problemas a la final del triple salto, en prueba en donde volvimos a ver a la fenomenal venezolana Yulimar Rojas. Las chicas, naturales de mi provincia Pinar del Río saltaron por encima de la marca mínima exigida (14.35) y aseguraron su boleto a la gran final, que será al amanecer de este miércoles, hora de nuestro país, noche en territorio nipón.
Estoy la verdad ansioso porque llegue esa final, aunque no será nada fácil ya que igualmente tendrá un entry de lujo esta final del triple salto para las damas. Además de Yulimar Rojas, campeona olímpica, mundial y recordista de la prueba, hay otras como la jamaicana Shanieka Ricketts, subcampeona olímpica y mundial, Thea Lafond de Dominica, campeona de París 2024, Jasmine Moore, medallista olímpica, son nombres a considerar. Aunque es válido señalar que las dos cubanas han sido las más estables a lo largo de la temporada.

Para nadie es un secreto que nuestros atletas se han preparado para enfrentar estas pruebas y estoy muy seguro que al menos sacaremos una medalla en la próxima jornada dentro del Mundial de Atletismo.

Cuba, as one of the countries with the most achievements in world athletics championships, has always been competitive, and naturally, many specialists in the sport leave room for Cuban athletes.
In the continuation of the World Championships held in Tokyo, Japan's capital, our small delegation had a positive day at the outdoor event on Tuesday. On the track, 400-meter runner Roxana Gómez qualified for the final of her event by finishing second in her semifinal heat, only behind Qatari Salwa Eid Nasser, one of the favorites for the world title.
The Cuban athlete recorded the sixth-fastest time in the semifinal (49.78) and will compete in the final.
