Quizá nunca habían escuchado el término "guaraña". Es un género musical propio de los llanos orientales de Venezuela, y se escucha mayormente en las poblaciones de Zaraza y Altagracia de Orituco en el Estado Guárico y Pariaguán, El Tigre, El Tigrito y Soledad en el Estado Anzoátegui. Lo podemos definir como un canto de trabajo, de origen afrodescendiente. Por supuesto, acompañado por el infaltable tambor característico de toda la música que nos llegó desde África, y también forma parte de los cantos que se entonan durante las celebraciones de la Cruz de Mayo, fiesta religiosa con la que los campesinos celebran para dar gracias a Dios por las primeras lluvias de cada año y para rogarle por una buena cosecha.
Quienes dieron a conocer esta música muy local al resto del territorio nacional han sido sobre todo las agrupaciones Un Solo Pueblo, Convenezuela, Grupo Vera y Grupo Zaranda.
