When people talk about traditions or rituals, most times their minds go straight to cultural practices, festivals or family customs. But for me, the most important ritual in my life is very personal and simple. It is praying every morning when I wake up and every night before I go to bed. I know it might not sound like much to some people, but to me, this ritual is everything. It gives me peace, direction and comfort that no other thing has been able to give me.
I started taking prayer more seriously some years ago. Before then, I used to take it lightly, sometimes I forget, other times I just rush it. But life has a way of teaching you lessons and making you realize what matters. I went through some tough times that left me feeling empty, and it was during those moments I understood how powerful prayer is. Since then, I made it a personal tradition that I never want to break.
Every morning, the first thing I do after opening my eyes is to say a prayer. Before touching my phone or speaking to anyone, I just close my eyes and talk to God. It might be for few minutes, sometimes longer, but the feeling I get after that moment is priceless. It’s like handing over the day to God and trusting Him to guide me through whatever comes. It gives me a sense of control, even when I know I don’t have control over everything that will happen that day.
At night, before I sleep, I repeat the same ritual. No matter how tired I am, I always try to pray. For me, ending the day with prayer is like closing a chapter peacefully. It’s me saying thank you for the gift of life, for protection, for little blessings that I might not even notice. It also gives me comfort because I go to bed with a clear heart. I don’t carry the burden of the day into my sleep.
Many people underestimate this simple ritual, maybe because it doesn’t involve big celebrations or because they feel it’s too ordinary. But what I have learned is that sometimes the simplest things carry the most meaning. Prayer has helped me to stay calm in the middle of storms, it has given me strength to face challenges, and it has shaped my perspective about life.
I also believe prayer is not just about asking for things, but also about building a relationship with God. For me, it’s a conversation, like talking to a friend who never gets tired of listening. This personal connection is why it means so much to me. Without this ritual, I feel something is missing in my day.
this is the tradition that means a lot to me. It may not be grand or celebrated by everyone, but it is my own sacred practice that keeps me grounded. And I don’t think I will ever stop it.
