Sundays has a special place in my heart, maybe because it is the only day that feels different from the rest of the week. For me, the day always start with church. I grew up with that routine, so it has become part of me now. No matter how stressful my week has been, I make sure I wake up, prepare and go to service. Sitting in church on a Sunday morning gives me a peace I don’t easily find elsewhere. The music, the prayers, the words, it just feels like a reset button for my soul.
Today was not different. I woke up, got ready and went to church. The streets was calm as usual, only few people moving around. You can easily tell it’s Sunday because of the quietness and the sight of families dressed up, either walking or waiting for a bike to take them to church. I love watching that because it reminds me that even in this busy world, some traditions still stay alive.
After church, the next thing in my Sunday is always food. Sundays food always feel special, maybe because of the way it brings family or friends together. Back when I was younger, rice and stew was like a must every Sunday, and I still keep that tradition sometimes. Today I plan to cook something simple, probably rice and plantain. I don’t like stressing myself too much in the kitchen on Sundays, I prefer to keep it light so I can rest.
The afternoon is usually when I slow down and just take in the day. Sometimes I read, sometimes I watch a movie, sometimes I just sit and think about life. Sundays for me is a time to reflect. I ask myself what went well during the week and what I need to do better. It’s not like I always get it right, but just the act of pausing to think helps me.
Another thing I do on Sundays is prepare my mind for the week ahead. I don’t like rushing into Mondays blind. I normally write down small goals or at least have an idea of what I want to focus on. It could be work related, personal, or just little things I want to achieve. That way when Monday comes, I already have a direction.
So yes, Sundays may look ordinary, but to me they carry meaning. From church in the morning, to food in the afternoon, and then quiet reflection in the evening, the whole flow makes it one of my best days of the week. It is not about doing too much, but about appreciating the little moments and preparing myself for what is coming.
