There are days when the city feels a little too much—traffic, noise, endless deadlines—and that’s when I find myself craving a quick escape. For me, that escape usually means a drive up to Tops of Cebu in Busay.
The trip itself is already part of the fun. As you climb higher, the air gets cooler and the scenery shifts from crowded streets to winding roads hugged by pine trees. By the time you reach the top, it feels like you’ve left the city behind and entered a whole new world.
The first thing that hits me every single time is the view. From up there, Cebu City stretches endlessly, framed by mountains and the sea. During the day, you see the busy cityscape bathed in sunlight, but at night—oh, that’s when it gets magical. The city lights sparkle like stars scattered below, and you can’t help but just stand there in awe. It’s the kind of view that makes you forget about your phone for a moment and just… breathe.
I usually go with friends, and we’d bring snacks or coffee, plop ourselves on the grass, and just talk while waiting for the sun to set. Sometimes, we don’t even talk much—we just watch as the sky turns pink and orange, then slowly fades into night. It’s such a simple thing, but honestly, those moments are some of my favorites.
And of course, I can’t skip the photos! Tops is basically an Instagram playground. Whether it’s the skyline, the sunset, or just candid shots with friends, everything looks ten times better with that backdrop.
But beyond the pictures, Tops of Cebu always reminds me why I love this city. It’s a little pocket of peace where I can pause, recharge, and remember that there’s beauty just a short drive away.
If you ever find yourself in Cebu, make the trip up. Go for the view, stay for the breeze, and leave with a lighter heart. Trust me—you’ll thank yourself for it.
