La Catedral de Portoviejo: Conoce más de mi ciudad [ESP-ENG]

Hoy quiero mostrarles un poco más de mi ciudad. Hay una catedral que me gusta, no soy fan de las catedrales, ni católica por religión, pero debo decir que me gusta mucho la estructura de estas, desde el punto se vista arquitectónico, así que cuando veo una catedral, castillo o estructura de estas, sin duda captan toda a mi atención. [La Catedral de Portoviejo](https://es.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Catedral_metropolitana_de_Portoviejo), es un punto de encuentro y en especial de referencia, a pesar de tener una mala fama, por culpa del municipio que no hace algo firme al respecto. En contexto: frente a la catedral y unida al mismo tiempo a ella, queda la Plaza Eloy Alfaro, una plaza pequeña y emblemática que con el tiempo se ha convertido en el hogar de los borrachos, drogadictos y prostitutas. Entonces al pasar por allí debes ser rápido, debes tener ojos en todas partes jajaja, y sí eres como yo que sacas el teléfono para capturar alguna fotografía, debes tener suerte. A la catedral le he tomado muchas fotos, en tiempos diferentes, algunas las perdí en mi otro equipo, pero solo una vez pude pararme bien frente a ella de lejos y tomarle una de frente. Las demás se las he tomado del otro lado de la calle, mientras espero el bus, ya que la Catedral está justo en la avenida universitaria, pero también frente al comercio informal muy conocido en la ciudad, por eso, quien vive en Portoviejo y no sabe donde está la catedral, sin duda es nuevo en la ciudad o simplemente es una persona que no sale de casa. Lo más raro de la catedral es que está cerca de todo y lejos también, está en una zona céntrica, pero que pese a un terremoto en el año 2016, quedó algo desolada, ahora se ha recuperado el comercio por esa zona, pero también el centro es muy grande y ya no solo es un punto de referencia la catedral. A sus alrededores venden ropa, medias, zapatos, pero también en la plaza venden helados, pan con helado, agua de coco y se reúnen los sindicalista mayores para hablar o discutir sobre temas diversos de la política, vida y ciudad. A veces hay bodas en la Catedral, y allí solo se casan los más pudientes de la ciudad, lo gracioso es que al salir están este grupo de personas que son el repudio de la sociedad y es cuando se ven dos mundos sociales cara a cara, unidos antes una cruz, un Bolívar en su caballo y las campanas qué resuenan en las cúpulas de la iglesia, haciendo ver que todos somos humanos, hijos de un mismo Dios. >![English Version] > >Today I want to show you a bit more of my city. The rest I’ve taken from across the street while waiting for the bus, since the cathedral is located right on University Avenue. It also faces a well-known informal market, which is why anyone who lives in Portoviejo and doesn’t know where the cathedral is must either be new to the city or simply someone who never leaves their house. > >The strangest thing about the cathedral is that it feels both near everything and far from it. It’s in a central area, but after the 2016 earthquake, the place was left somewhat desolate. Commerce in the area has since recovered, but the city center has expanded so much that the cathedral is no longer the only point of reference. Around it, people sell clothes, socks, shoes, and in the plaza you can find ice cream, ice cream sandwiches, coconut water, and retired unionists who gather to talk or debate about politics, life, and the city. Sometimes there are weddings at the cathedral, and only the wealthiest in the city get married there. The funny thing is that when they come out, they’re met by the very people that society tends to reject—and that's when two different social worlds come face to face, united beneath a cross, a Bolívar on his horse, and the bells ringing in the church domes, reminding us that we are all human, children of the same God.
