Every time I visit the local nature reserve, I seem to take the dark clouds with me. I'd heard that a heron and a few egrets were around, so I called in this morning.
Sure enough, there were about four egrets, a heron, and a cormorant. Unfortunately, you can't get too close as there's a small stream between you and the visiting birds. It was nice to see them all chilling together, though. There are a few ponds and lakes in the area so they fly off to visit those as well.
It is quite pretty down here at the moment with the wildflowers and plants, such as bird's foot trefoil, wild carrot and teasel to name a few.
Some of the teasels just had enough flowers on them to attract the bees. I still think they look good even without their flowers.
I always think it is going to be a quick visit but then I get talking to the bird spotters and photographers down there an hour or so has past.
