While visiting the Isle of Purbeck in Dorset, UK we called in at the Scott Arms in the lovely village of Kingston. We'd had a good walk with the pooch so now was the time to treat ourselves.
There was a nice beer garden in the back. The unusual thing about it was the gravestone of Michael Henchard situated next to one of the picnic tables. Were we literally dining with the dead?? We found out from another customer that it was actually a tv prop that was accidentally left behind when filming a tv programme had finished. I do like a graveyard but this was a bit too close for comfort. It was definitely a conversation piece.
We settled down at a table with stunning views over the countryside. In the very distance was the ruins of Corfe Castle.
We ordered a black Americano with a ploughman's lunch and egg and chips. As it was a lovely sunny day, it was good to have a nice healthy salad.
The pooch ordered some water. In fact, he walked straight past this bowl of water when we first entered the beer garden. He just wouldn't touch it. After we sat down, I went back to retrieve the water for him and he wolfed it down. I think he just wanted to be waited on. Dogs can be so fickle.
The venue has had mixed reviews lately, but we enjoyed it. It was a little pricey but that's usual in the south of England. We paid the bill, paid our respects to "Michael Henchard" and left. 😁
