Fortunately, nowadays with digital cameras you can easily decide whether your photo looks better in colour or black and white. When I was young all photos were black and white so to me black and white is timeless. Personally, I like both but I choose what works better for the image. I don't like over saturated photos though.
Having said that, there's a few situations where I can't decide! The above photograph of a bird hide is one of them. I like both of them equally.
The second image, I prefer black and white. Even though red is one of my favourite colours, it was taken on a foggy day while I was out on a walk, so I think black and white gives it more atmosphere that suited the day.
Another one I cannot choose between. I think the photo works well either way.
