I just listened to people saying it, I never really leant the meaning of the saying…. One man's food is another man's poison. It was my experience with banku and groundnut soup that made me understand that not all meals are worth trying, at least we can just verify the source it is coming from before agreeing to try it.
During my undergraduate year, I usually go to visit my friend at a place not quite far from my hostel. Whenever I went to visit, he would always offer me home made food. Though I usually eat the food, I used to feel like can't he let us eat out? Can't he take us to a mama put in his area at least if he can not afford a nice restaurant, at least he is not broke I am sure of that.
It got to a point, I was usually skeptical when going to visit. I will always ask him if he wants me to buy some food items on my way because I know he doesn't eat out. It was on one of such visits that he suggested that we eat from one woman selling food at a junction from his house.
I was so overjoyed because I have never seen him eat out and the family I come from so much believe in home made food. So this came to me as an opportunity to try a new meal and also eat out. If only I had known, I would have slept without food that night.

We took our plates from home and off we went to the buka. On getting there he ordered the food for us and within minutes we had started to eat. I noticed that the soup was testing like groundnut and okro mixed together and asked. In response he said he collected groundnut soup and white okro for us.
That movements, I got thinking how will somebody be eating groundnut as soup nah. I enjoyed my meal and we went back home. People of God, I did not sleep till day break. I pooed to the extent that I had to sit in the toilet till five in the morning. Thank god for salt and sugar solution because i was so weak that i could ybit walk to the hospital. Last last, the doctor said it was food poisoning. Shey nah so person dey die.

It made me vow never to eat out or from a source I do not trust. If I will be trying a new food for the first time in my life. Each time I go to visit, the son of man will always task me with jokes saying babes, let's eat from that woman I don't want to cook and I will gladly forget the baby girl lifestyle and volunteer to be his cook lesson learnt, note taken.
