Everyone comes from a different walk of life, and with that comes different beliefs—especially when it comes to faith. But if there’s one thing almost every religion seems to have in common, it’s prayer. People everywhere pray, reaching out to whatever or whomever they believe in. But here’s something we often overlook: not every prayer reaches God.
Those who worship idols are praying, yes—but not to the one true God. They're speaking to lifeless objects, things made by human hands. And God is not like that. He’s not stone or metal. He’s not something we can shape or control. He is alive, and He only responds to those who truly reach out to Him—not to substitutes.
God hears His own. That’s why, in Scripture, we’re called His sheep and He’s called our Shepherd. That's why a shepherd doesn’t look after someone else’s sheep. He protects the ones that are his. That’s the same way God cares for those who belong to Him.

This is a reminder that sometimes people pour their hearts into things that are man-made, things that seem shiny and valuable but are ultimately empty. Throughout the Bible, we see how much God opposes idol worship. Not because He’s insecure, but because He knows those things pull us away from what’s real. He’s a jealous God, but in a loving way, like a parent who sees their child chasing after something harmful.
Habakkuk 2:19 Woe unto him that saith to the wood, Awake; to the dumb stone, Arise, it shall teach! Behold, it is laid over with gold and silver, and there is no breath at all in the midst of it.
You can cover a piece of wood or stone in gold, decorate it however you like, but it still has no life. It won’t speak. It won’t guide. It won’t answer when you cry. That’s the truth.
There’s only one real, living God. He created the universe. He created us. He wasn’t made, He’s always existed. And while people can make all kinds of objects to worship, they’ll never compare to the God who breathes life, gives hope, and hears every whispered prayer from a heart that truly seeks Him.
In the end, God doesn’t just want words or rituals. He wants relationship. And that’s something no idol can ever give.
