The National Day Celebration in Cameroon

Hello my dear friends and audience of this darling space community. Permit me share with you a national event that took place in my country Cameroon on 20,May, 2025. As tradition demands every year, Cameroon celebrates it's national day, on 20 May, which is a public holiday nationwide.This year's national day celebration marked the 53rd anniversary with Military and civilian parade held across the national Territory of the Country. In Yaounde the administrative headquarters or capital of the country, the ceremony presided over by President Paul Biya featured hundreds of soldiers and civilians who marched past Infront of national and international dignitaries present at the ceremony. The day was celebrated under the theme "Army and Nation united for a Cameroon focused on peace and prosperity" ° The event at the Country's capital kick-started with the arrival of the presidential couple shortly before 12 noon at the 20th May Boulevard and greeted by cheers of thousands of Cameroonians who had came to witness the great parade. The president smartly and handsomely dressed, accompanied by the first lady Chantal Biya dressed in a bright outfit took their place in the the presidential tribune at the official stand. The event witnessed the presence of the Nigerian military contingent who participated in the parade, underscoring growing military cooperation between the two neighbouring countries. ° Nigeria Armed Forces Contingent military Parade stole the day ✓ The Nigeria Armed Forces contingent captivated the crowd at the 53rd National Day celebration in Yaounde, the administrative capital of Cameroon. The crowd was thrilled by the soldiers amazing performance as seen in the vibrant musical displays, and impeccable regimental coordination, earning them accolades and admiration from the crowd. The participation of Nigerian contingent underscored the strong bilateral ties and military cooperation between Nigeria and Cameroon while reinforcing security, peace and prosperity. A major highlight of the event was the outstanding performance by the Nigeria Armed Forces contingent which was the first and only foreign presentation at the ceremony. Infact the presence and participation of Nigerian army during this very important day in Cameroon is a testament of the cordial relationship existing between the two countries. ° The Nigerian military drill gave way to the Cameroon Military Parade both in the air and on land, followed by the civilian parade. . The different Cameroonian military corps marched past both on foot and motorized. The international and national dignitaries also witnessed the passage of pupils, students, members of the various legalized political parties formation etc. ✓The students of the military academy parade during the national day celebration in Yaounde, the administrative headquarters of Cameroon, at the admiration of the mammoth crowd at the ceremonial ground. ✓ Military Vehicles parade at the ceremony to make the day gained the importance it deserved. ✓ Meanwhile the presidential couple could be seen greeting guests and other dignitaries present at the ceremony. ° Celebration also took place in all the 10 regions of the Country including the war-torn Anglophone areas, where separatist fighters had imposed a lockdown to disrupt the celebrations. Local authorities reported clashes in Bambili in the north west region but it did not affect the event. In Bamenda the celebration was held at the commercial avenue grandstand that was jammed to capacity with the population that turned out to celebrate the day. ° Cameroon National Day holds immense cultural and historical significance for the people of the nation. It serves as a symbol of national Unity, bringing together individuals from diverse linguistic, ethnic, and cultural backgrounds. The holiday provides an opportunity to celebrate rich heritage, strength the sense of national identity, and promote cultural diversity. ° History of Cameroon National Day ✓ Cameroon became a German colony in 1884 known as Kamerun. After Germany's defeat in the first world war, the administration of the following colony was divided between Britain and France, becoming UN Trust territories after the creation of the united Nations. ✓ The united Nations Trust territory known as French Cameroon achieved independence from France on January 1st 1960, and British Southern Cameroon on 1st, 1961. ✓ On May 20th 1972, in a national referendum, Cameroonians voted for a unitary state as opposed to existing federal state. President Ahmadou Ahidjo then abolished the federal state, which gave birth to the Republic of Cameroon. Images: Cameroon web
