FEEDING OUR PIGS

 My mother has been rearing pigs for a very long time now, infact I was born and brought up I saw my mother has been rearing pigs for domestic purposes and as a business. She told me how good and lucrative rearing pigs business could be because of her personal experience over the years of being into the business consistently. She told me most times she could make two times more than the amount she bought the pigs when she reared them and sought them at a certain period. My mother said she used to buy the pigs at their early stage of life, like when the pigs are six to eight months old she could buy two females and a male in order to them to multiple as they grow together in the same room.  I came this morning to give them their food and I noticed the pigs are looking good and strong. My mother noticed one of the pig is currently pregnant, that in a no distance time the pig will put to bed. Perhaps she could give birth to five or even ten children we don't really know yet.  One of the pig has given birth to three children over four month ago. The three pigs are alive and strong just that it seems their mother is sick because the mother has not been eating food very well these days. I told my mother about what I observed from the pig and she confirmed is true that she will call for person doing the animals treatment to come the next day to do his job. At first the mother was eating food and she looks bigger even after she has given birth but now she became slim and a bit dark in complexion due to inability to eat food.  Seeing the mother pig you will noticed she is not looking healthy like other pigs. But other ones are healthy, they are eating well and you will see how they are shouting everyday my mother and I are bringing food for them.  This other pigs are from a different mother, their mother has been sought out already by the mother to some people that came to buy it. The mother pig was so big and people came and asked from my mother if she wants to sell it because those people needs a big pig for a marriage ceremony and they purchased it for a some of (N120, 000) One hundred and tweety thousand naira.  My mother told me she remembered she bought the mother pig at the rate of (N45,000) Forty five thousand naira back then. Though she feds the pigs, their treatment and making sure the pigs are well taken care of is not easy but despite all of this struggles and spending there's a profit at the end of the business says my mother.  Of a truth this business if someone can invest into it and take it very serious it has profit at the end. My mother sought out the mother pig and left the children. Now the children are growing, it will give birth and after a while she will still sell those ones that have grown up and still have some left again. She can decides to sell only the children leaving the mother pig to be given birth. My mother has gotten some benefit of income to the house as a result of this pigs rearing business she has been doing and is generating income for her.  This business all you have to do and the most important things to do while doing this business is to make sure you have built a suitable and comfortable house that's a bit wide for the pigs to stays inside because the pigs cannot survive in a very small house or room. They needs a large space in order to move round the room and have a big place to be receiving fresh air. Keep the room free from dust, clean the dirts time to time and make sure the roof is well nailed to avoid linking during raining season and also make sure the walls are well cemented.  So, this morning I took their food and fed them as usual. The pigs food could be left over food from the house, some specific grass that's raining season you can graze it and feed them with it. There's a local mixture of food in my culture we used to do for pigs food. You will look for chap from palm oil last product, add banana leaf, then grind maize and mix then together and boil in the fire and allowed it to boil and stem very well. After that you can allow the food to be cold then you can be feeding the pigs with the food. The pigs likes eating it and it makes them grown fast and healthy. Am sure the food is well nourished. That's how in my culture they do prepared it .   This particular pictures are examples of how the food is been prepared in my culture. I took this picture when my mother was preparing the food for her pigs. I shows very interest in taking care of this pigs because one of it belongs to me. I asked my mother to give me a female pig so that when it grow up and have children we will share it and she accepted and gave me a female pig.  One major thing I likes about this business is that you cannot stay for a whole year without having people that want to buy from you except you doesn't want to sell yours. People buy bigger pigs for our local eggon traditional marriage because a very big pig is also listed among the items the groom will provide for the bride traditional lists and even white wedding too.  And even those people selling food at a restaurant and joints also comes in to buy the pig for their business. People buy a good looking pig for business, events and traditional purposes.  Is a profitable business that people often patronize at any time of events or occasion. I will invest my little resources in this business and with the help and support of my mother I will have my own pigs for rearing business one-day.
