

My mother asked me to go to the backyard farm and removed some okro and bring it to her because she wants to make okro soup this evening. My mother really likes eating okro soup a lot, infact to her okro soup is one of her favorite and best soup. And whenever she cooked the okro soup, she will cut it small small and cooked it half done. She will add enough pepper and gbomo meat inside. My mother can cooked this okro soup and been eating it for three days. If she wants to eat it the next day, she will put it in the refrigerator and warm it in the fire and eat it again. She really likes okro soup so much.


So, I went out and went to the backyard farm to remove some okro this evening, I noticed the okro wasn't that much in the farm again. They were scanty from afar, I said to myself this okro will not be enough for my mother to make soup this evening but I entered the farm and starting seeing some okro as I draw closer.

The okro is so big and beautiful to see , even as you all can see it in the picture is looking so good and fresh. The okro was not much or plenty in the farm but is very big.I started removing the okro as I walked deep in the farm and finally gotten enough that will be enough for the soup and took it to my mother in the house.


Okro is also a major vegetable crop that most people in Nigeria eat it, cook in a different way depending on different culture and traditions in Nigeria. Okro add so many value to health nutritionally. When you farm okro or plant okro in your farm, any kind of farm at all the okro will grow. It doesn't require much water for it growth, just moderate rainfall is enough for it to grown. Okro is a seeds planting crop, you can plant the seeds one or two by giving a small space in the same hole and it will grow much. Okro takes 60 days to get matured then can be harvested.


One major thing I like about this okro crop is that the more you harvest it the more is keeps growing up more fruits. We all know okro is also a vegetable, that's it helps in easy and quickly digestion and also very helpful to pregnant women to stop birth defect. This okro crop, the soup is very good for people suffering from diabetes because it has low calorie. Some people farm okro for business purposes but we farm ours for family consumption.


Okro can be eaten as fresh and dry as well. When you harvest the okro and put it under the sun for few days it will dry up. And when the okro dried, you can pound it into powder and can cook the soup too. Okro can also germinate alongside with other farm produces like yam, pepper, maize and lots of them.


Even ours we planted the okro alongside with maize, but we harvested our maize leaving the okro still in the farm. Okro needs to be managed well if not pear can destroy it and gets affected by disease. For those farming okro for business purposes can also earn money for farming it in a large qualities since is a kind of crops that is not harvested once in a year. They can generate money for selling okro and also providing food to their family.

Okro is very good for body system, and is a good lucrative business with a good demand in Nigeria because it can be eaten as fresh or dried and is a multiple harvests in a year.
