NO DISTANCE IN FRIENDSHIP

When I think about friendship, I think it’s not something that is supposed to have any barrier. Its finding somebody who understands you and is there for you. That is why the very thought of having a Korean friend makes me feel sooo giddy.

There is really so much, I’m getting really excited when thinking about our conversations.

The first thing I would talk about is k-pop. BTS, Seventeen, Stray Kids, so many of them. I’d tell my Korean friend about my love for them. I’d start with Jungkook, because he’s my bias. I’d get her to share some stories about how BTS are probably seen in Korea.

We would talk about Seventeen. There I’d start with Hoshi, because well he’s also my bias. Funny thing, I think I love all thirteen of them. I sometimes get their names wrong when I’m trying to write it in hangul, so she would teach me all about it.

And then Stray Kids. I can’t pick one because I love them all so much, and there is enough love to go round for them all. We would talk about their songs and insane soundtracks.

She’d tell me all about their Korean food, because I really want to try it one day. And then I’d tell her about mine. We’d laugh and then compare our country’s food. I would love to try a Korean restaurant with her, taste ramen together, it’s going to be a blast.

We would try out a photo booth. I see that in almost all the k-dramas I watch , we would take pictures together making different poses.

Ooh, and fashion. I love Korean fashion, they’re always stylish and I have a thing for oversized clothes since I’m actually kinda small, and that would compliment it all. I would show her the styles, ankara’s and how people wear agbadas and all.

She would teach me more Korean words so I could speak better, and I would as well teach her my native language. We would watch dramas together, I always wanted that. I could introduce her to our nollywood dramas. I could already imagine her being so shocked at how dramatic nollywood actors can be.

She would tell me about Chuseok and how families gather and wear hanbok. And I would tell her about the festivals here, the masquerades dances on the street, and how rice and stew tastes better on those special days. We would talk and laugh like we’ve known each other like forever.

It wouldn’t matter the distance, if I’m Nigerian and she’s Korean. Because our connection would be bigger than that.
