Catching A Break.

>"*Nothing beats a Jet2 Holiday! And right now, you can save..."* Oh I know, I know. The words are already ringing in your ears. Yeah, me too. That’s one of my favourite sounds from TikTok, if you’ve been around there lately. Today we’re talking about… Holidays! Show me someone that don’t love holidays, I’ll wait. I mean just the thought of not having to wake up early in the morning to prepare for wherever excites me. I’m not even a morning person, so I’ll forever be grateful for anything that’ll keep me in bed past 6am. Have you ever been watching a video and maybe you miss a scene because it was played too fast, then you just watch again in slow-mo and you see how everything happened? I like to think that’s exactly what holidays do. They don’t just help us pause, they help us slow down and catch up on our lives. Nobody is rushing to go anywhere, the streets are people-free and kids are not crying because they are being woken early in the morning to dress up for school. It’s just humans being humans again. ![](https://images.ecency.com/DQmTuCEp2gCivTnRaWXr9gQft4SionUP5FocTo8nGC9tsL9/1758712361171.jpg) May and June used to be my favourite months in secondary school because we had lineups of school-free days. And not just the two of them, we had enough holidays to run round all through the year. Whether it was the official holidays and celebrations or just an extra day off, it was always nice to break off from the usual hustles and bustle. In as much as a little holiday won’t hurt anyone or even the economy. I mean, that one or two days won’t make central bank stop running or big firms to shut down. People just need a moment of peace once in a while. But having lived in the East all my life, I figured out that not many people even want to rest. Workers Day o… people are out opening their shops and selling. Democracy Day o… market is bustling. I remember when they made Mondays compulsory sit-at-home here due to some political issues going on, even my mom was not happy. *“I don’t like it, Monday is the core market day. How are we going to cope with sales?”* And I’m like, *“relaxxxxxx mom, it’s just one day.”* Lately, she’s realized that the Monday she stays home is actually very beneficial. At least she takes care of herself and sleeps so well. So yeah, we don’t actually need more holidays. Okay, let me rephrase, I don’t need more holidays. My work is flexible enough to let me have some peaceful days. People just need to maximise the holidays they already have. ![](https://images.ecency.com/DQmToXWJa9Ser2SSX8XQBKhkBt5FdmLXp5zMZsoNiazMypR/1758712412389.jpg) For example, I hear that most employers still make their workers do work on some holidays and I think that’s just mean. And for people who just choose to work themselves up generally, when it all boils down, they won’t even need someone to tell them, “hey, you need rest.” Life gets harder every day, especially in a country with an unstable economy. What we need more than extra holidays is a better way of living for everyone. If people had life a bit easier, they wouldn’t even cling to holidays like it's the only way out of the misery we find ourselves in. At this point, everyone is working 100 times harder, that the idea of even using one day to rest seems strange. However it is, rest is undeniably important. Whether it comes from official holidays or just someone deciding to give themselves a break when necessary, the world will not collapse. It’s just about creating that well-needed balance of not working till you drop, and not resting till your roof leaks.
