According to Descartes perspective of the dualism nature of every human, it was establish that the composition of every human is made of two components, the body and the mind ("mind" also considered as the soul in some part of the theory of dualism) the mind being the central processing unit of every human just like a computer. It is empowered with the function of overseeing human conduct, which dictates humans values, personality, thoughts and the behavioural pattern of every human. To an extent it has more control over human conduct than humans themselves because some factors and variables exist deep within our subconscious which exist outside the boundaries of human control in most cases. It sounds complex, it is considered the inner self that calls the shot. Every act or action taken by any human have to go through the mind before it manifest physically. Then we have the second component, which is the body. It is the shell that holds everything else together, it is seen and the most easily admired part of every human. The body being the most noticeable tends to be the part of human that most people tends to give lot of attention, in terms of exercising and dieting to ensure we stay fit at all time. Whatever challenges befalls the body, it is easily noticeable, which means it doesn't suffer negligence compared to the mind. A teacher of mine once said, "out of every three individuals in the society, there is one mentally unstable individual among them" we all laughed and assumed it to be a funny joke. This was before the whole pandemic happened and the world became more chaotic. Across the world most illness have different symptoms that can be easily identified without the need of medical practitioner but in the case of mental illness, most people affected barely know what is wrong with them until eventually they become uncontrollable. In a world such as mine, we encounter different kind of stress on a daily basis which can have a negative impact on us both physically and mental stability.
PERSONAL TECHNIQUES TO MAINTAIN MENTAL & PHYSICAL STABILITY
1) Rest: After a very stressful day take a shower and sleep for awhile, it allows the brain and body to reset. There are lot of individuals that work 24 hours a day without giving themselves time to rest, the body is not a machine, the brain being the control room of the body needs some rest. In those days when I was still a student, especially during exams, it is rare for me to read when it is sunny. Whenever I came back from writing a paper, immediately after getting home, I would eat, clean up and sleep. I set my alarm to read at night for at least 3 hours then I go back to sleep and revise all I have read in the morning before the exam. Creating a resting time for my body allows me to filled with energy before a busy a day.
2) Consume healthy nutritional food: Maintaining an healthy diet is very important, which contains nutritional minerals. As a person I'm a foodie, I don't joke with foods. Apart from that I always ensure I consume nutritional supplements or substances to boost my mental health and maintain a good physique.
3) Express yourself more often: Most people may not really understand the value of this but it is very important, it is a form of therapy. In most cases after we encounter a stressful event or some kind event that has stirred up our anger and emotions, having someone to talk to or something can reduce the effect. As a person, though I have a small circle of friends and you know these days it is very difficult to trust others with sensitive matters but for me it has always been easy for me to express myself because I don't need a person to do that, I'm writer and a poet, most times I express myself by writing poems. Thus allows me to process any thought that might be weighing me down.
4) Avoid stress: They are times when we have to avoid stressful situations, engaging in unnecessary stress is not good for mental and physical health which affects both components stability. The moment you detect that an event will require you to stress yourself unnecessary, abstain from it.
I tend to emphasize more on mental health because we forget how much influence our brain have over the body. A person with a stable mind have a higher chance of being more productive than a person with fit body. Both are important but one part have more influence over the other.
