Dr Allan Zarkin was an Obstetrician whose job is to help women with diagnosis, treatment and treatment of conditions during pregnancy, during childbirth and postpartum issues. He began treatment with CLOMIPHEN, a fertility pill and soon she became pregnant but it wasn't long before the good news became a bad one as she suffered a miscarriage only about 8 weeks after.
The doctor was doing his best and he wanted to ensure that she was going to give birth to a healthy child and this was helpful for Liana who became pregnant after 1 month of her miscarriage and this time she didn't use a fertility pill. For the next seven months, she was helped by the doctor on everything she needed to know during her prenatal state. During the period of the pregnancy, the doctor patient relationship grew into a family friend relationship and the doctor was always welcomed to have dinner with the family.
The doctor who was now free with his patient was able to discuss a lot of things including a lot of patients information that shouldn't be discussed because they wasn't appropriate. 24 weeks was gone, and she was admitted to the Beth Isreal medical center as a result of a premature labor but she had to stay in the hospital until the 7th of September 1999 which was 6 weeks to her due date and she had to be informed of an emergency C-section as the baby was in distress.
Dr Allan Zarkin ws going to perform the C-section on her and was able to deliver of her a baby girl who was six weeks premature and was just 4 pounds and 11 ounces but in all, the baby was healthy. Although she had undergone a surgery, she could not but help to notice that she was feeling a very strange and strong pain in her abdomen. She didn't like how she felt and didn't also like how the hospital staffs were looking at her with eager to remove the bandages in her abdomen but all this was going to end when the doctors remove the bandages, so she thought.
On the 9th of September, Dr Allan Zarkin and the chairman of Obstetrics in the hospital Dr. Daniel Saltzman walked into the room and Dr. Daniel Saltzman wanted to see what happened in the operating room during the operation and he said this to Liana who became immediately worried and requested for a mirror from her husband who reluctantly gave it to her. He wanted her to have her peace of mind but he gave her the mirror either ways. When she looked at her abdomen, she saw an red, torn, swollen, and infected wound which Dr Allan Zarkin had carved into her abdomen to create a writing AZ using a Scalpel which were Abbreviations for Allan Zarkin. The letters were about three inches high and 1.5 inches wide.
Everyone in the operating room knew about this and although the husband found out late, he just wanted to get his daughter and wife home safely first before coming to revisit it. The resident doctor laughed and this was more disturbing to Liana. Furthermore, Dr Allan Zarkin made it clear that he did not owe the patient any explanation after the way he took care of her.
While she was grateful for the doctor's help, he had no right to do that to her body but the doctor stormed out of the room. He was suspended the same day after the Chairman saw this and he later resigned. His partners also made sure that he was fired from being an obstetrician after they saw what he had done. Sincerely, this is very terrible to say this least. I cannot imagine a person going through this kind of pain.
Funny enough, when Dr Allan Zarkin stormed out of the room, he wanted to remove a breathing pipe from the baby in the incubator but a nurse restrained him. No one mentioned this to the hospital until he was suspended. Just as I was expecting, on November 8, 1999, the family sued the hospital, Dr Allan Zarkin, and his medical team for malpractice and they filed for $5.5 million in damages. While Zarkin's legal team tried to defend their client by saying he had a brain disorder that caused him to behave in that way but the prosecution countered it and they went further to bring out numerous misconduct from the doctor which the hospital was negligent about.
The doctor later plead guilty and he was barred from applying for a medical license for 5 years, and the hospital was fined $14 thousand and were asked to make things right and the family settled for a $1.75 million from the hospital.
