Sometimes on Arrakis, it just feels like death is stalking you. Everywhere you look, it’s there. It also can't be helped when it catches you a few times along the way as well.
You might be wondering how I ended up here with a sand worm chasing after me. Thankfully, this one is on the smaller side. You might also wonder what happened to all my gear.
I know this is going to sound strange. I wanted to get eaten by a sand worm. As it turns out, when you do, there is a chance of getting a sand worth tooth. What can I do with that tooth? Well, turn it into a dagger naturally.
I’ve been wanting a better dagger for quite some time. I thought this was the answer. Sadly, after making and using the dagger. I found out it was a one-time use. I don’t feel like getting eaten 50k times by a sand worm just to have enough weapons to make it through the day. I guess this is not a viable option.
After that exciting moment, I went and ran some missions. Nothing great out of them, just working on further progressing in different classes so I can unlock higher tiers for skills like I have been.
It became clear I needed some better gear afterward. So, I went out to Shoel to farm some crystals. With the radiation there, you need to farm fast and get out. Recover and repeat.
As you might be able to see in red letters. I ran into some issues. My internet dropped, and I had a bad feeling I just lost my ornithopter and got killed again. Thinking fast, I switched over to a different internet and managed to log back in just before it was too late.
I would have loved to have stayed and finish my farming run for crystals. I, however, had such a high ping that I was not sure I'd make it back to my base alive. The whole time, I was just glad I got out of the radiation and hoping that if I lost connection again, I'd not be over open sand.
I then went around my local area farming with a buggy. I can’t express enough how I wish I had started to use a buggy sooner for areas I could get one into. This thing was amazing. I, however, no longer just had ores and fuel cells to carry around in it.
The Deathstills recently need corpses. While I had been hauling one at a time back to my base from the camp behind me. That was just not cutting it. My buggy now turned into a corpse hauler while I went around murdering like it was going out of style.
I should have taken my blessing with what I was able to get done and called it for a while. I, however, was in quite the farming mood. I’m just glad at this point that I could craft a replacement ornithopter if things went bad.
One thing, if you lose an ornithopter to a sand worm, you were doing something wrong to have put yourself into such a situation. Not this time around. I ended up crashing to the desktop, and when I returned, my ornithopter was not next to me.
I went looking for the ornithopter for a bit. Then I decided to check the event logs, and I noticed a sand worm, or as they like to call them, “Shai-Hulud” at the ornithopter. I was so far away from my base or a trade post, I took a free ride back to my base.
I was not too happy about the situation, but that was nothing I to do about it. I also decided to be stupid after just replacing my lost ornithopter. I now did not have enough resources to replace it again if the worst were to happen.
I was going to go farm the mats to have some backup supplies for when the next incident would arrive. I, however, flew past a spice field not far from my base. There was no way I could just skip over it. So, I went down and collected what I could.
Naturally, I could not just farm spice in peace. A sand worm took notice, and it might be the one that had already killed me before. You would think it would be full. Instead, it was quite a bad moon. Perhaps I have indigestion. All I know is I had to avoid it three times just to farm the small spice field in full.
After far too many close calls with death and a sand worm. I decided to just focus on running some missions for the remainder of the night. I ended up going into some testing station labs.
These places were quite chill. I still feel like I'm a bit behind on mission running. Despite knowing I need to make some gear upgrades. For the most part, the missions I ran were easy.
After quite a while, however, I ran out of corpses back at my base and thus had enough water to keep refining all the ores I had collected. So, I jumped back onto my buggy and went for another run around my area.
At least this time it was not me. I’m quite certain someone did not make the trip between a wide-open area of sand between two regions. I ended up turning around and noticing what was going on in time.
Final Thoughts
It became quite clear that something or someone was after me that day. I decided it was just not safe enough to keep leaving the base for a while. So, I spent some time organizing my base.
I had kind of let my base storage turn into a massive mess. As you can see, I was just dumping whatever I had into any chest I found. A lot of it was just from a buggy farming run. Still, I was getting a bit tired of having to hunt around to find items. I had been putting off organizing and even upgrading my storage space for a while now.
