Today I want to show you one of those places that doesn't need advertising to leave its mark. The Dos Cerritos dam is located on the outskirts of El Tocuyo, and it is one of those corners of Venezuela where nature and engineering come together, creating a landscape that exudes utility and beauty. My visit was brief, but long enough to understand that this site not only retains water, but also has the majesty of the Andes Mountains as its backdrop.
From the first moment, the environment enveloped me. The mirror of water stretched out calmly, reflecting the cloudy sky and the mountains as if it wanted to duplicate their grandeur... The clouds drifted slowly, heavy with water, and the wind carried the rustling of leaves, announcing that rain was about to fall. The dam, although functional and concrete, blends respectfully into the landscape, without breaking the harmony that surrounds it.

This hydraulic work plays a vital role in the region: it supplies water to nearby communities, sustains crops, and allows for the regulation of water flow during rainy seasons. It is an example of how infrastructure can coexist with the environment without imposing itself... As an engineer, I couldn't help but notice the technical details: the design of the channels, the containment structure, the gate system. But beyond the technical aspects, what moved me was the way the dam becomes part of the landscape, as if it had always been there.

And then there are the mountains: beautiful and radiant, imposing, silent, eternal. These mountains are part of the majestic Andes mountain range, the backbone that runs through South America and which in Venezuela displays a serene elegance. Their soft, undulating shapes contrast with the force of their geological history. From the dam, they can be seen in all their splendor, like guardians watching over the water and time.

I took several photos with my cell phone, trying to capture what my eyes saw and what my heart felt. But there are things that cannot be captured in an image: the smell of damp earth, the warmth of the sun on my skin, the feeling of smallness in the face of such immensity. That is why I write, so that words can complete what the camera cannot.

Dos Cerritos is not just a dam. It is a meeting point between the human and the natural, between necessity and contemplation. It is a reminder that we can build without destroying, and that beauty is in the details: in a falling drop, in a waiting mountain, in a lingering gaze.

Hoy quiero mostrarles uno de lugares que no necesitan anunciarse para dejar huella, la represa Dos Cerritos esta ubicada en las afueras de El Tocuyo, es uno de esos rincones de Venezuela donde la naturaleza y la ingeniería se dan la mano, creando un paisaje que respira utilidad y belleza. Mi paso fue breve, pero suficiente para entender que este sitio no solo retiene agua, sino que también tiene como telón de fondo a la majestuosidad de la Cordillera de los Andes.
Desde el primer instante el entorno me envolvió, el espejo de agua se extendía tranquilo, reflejando el cielo nublado y las montañas como si quisiera duplicar su grandeza... Las nubes se deslizaban lentas, cargadas de agua y el viento traía consigo el murmullo de las hojas anunciando que la lluvia está por caer. La represa, aunque funcional y concreta, se integra con respeto al paisaje, sin romper la armonía que la rodea.
Esta obra hidráulica tiene un papel vital en la región: abastece de agua a comunidades cercanas, sostiene cultivos y permite la regulación de caudales en épocas de lluvia, es un ejemplo de cómo la infraestructura puede convivir con el entorno sin imponerse... Como ingeniera, no pude evitar observar los detalles técnicos: el diseño de los canales, la estructura de contención, el sistema de compuertas. Pero más allá de lo técnico, lo que me conmovió fue la manera en que la represa se convierte en parte del paisaje, como si siempre hubiese estado allí.
Y luego están ellas: hermosas y radiantes las montañas, imponentes, silenciosas, eternas. Estas montañas forman parte de la majestuosa Cordillera de los Andes, esa columna vertebral que atraviesa Sudamérica y que en Venezuela se muestra con una elegancia serena. Sus formas suaves y onduladas contrastan con la fuerza de su historia geológica. Desde la represa, se pueden contemplar en todo su esplendor, como guardianas que vigilan el agua y el tiempo.
Tomé varias fotos con mi celular, intentando capturar lo que mis ojos veían y lo que mi corazón sentía. Pero hay cosas que no caben en una imagen: el olor a tierra húmeda, el calor del sol en la piel, la sensación de pequeñez ante tanta inmensidad, por eso escribo, para que las palabras completen lo que la cámara no puede.
Dos Cerritos no es solo una represa. Es un punto de encuentro entre lo humano y lo natural, entre la necesidad y la contemplación. Es un recordatorio de que podemos construir sin destruir, y de que la belleza está en los detalles: en una gota que cae, en una montaña que espera, en una mirada que se detiene.
