There are many ways to travel, one of which is through the imagination, which is perhaps the vehicle that can take us to the most distant places. This collection of papers that I present today was once the means of traveling to the artistic avant-garde of Europe in the first three decades of the 20th century. A means of escaping a reality that was not mine. During these escapades, there was also room to visit other continents and other eras, but I mainly traveled through that old Europe that was entering the turbulent 20th century. With this publication dedicated to a collection of papers, I return once again to times brimming with creativity and new ideas. As with any excursion, you have to bring the essentials in case of setbacks: water, something to snack on, and, as the temperature is high, I will be accompanied by fans and handheld fans. --- >Existen muchas formas de viajar, una de ellas es la imaginación, que quizás sea el vehículo que a lugares más lejanos pueda llegar. >Esta colección de papeles que presento hoy, en su momento fueron el medio para viajar a la Europa de las vanguardias artísticas de las primeras tres décadas del siglo XX. In my life, I have had the opportunity to experience some periods of excess, for which I was rewarded and, on occasion, paid the price. One of these occurred in my early teens. I think I must have been 16 or 17 when the Reina Sofía Museum opened. It was a building just a few bus stops away from my house. Visits to this museum, which was a complete novelty at the time, opened my eyes to a whole world that was unknown to me until then. Those were years in which I not only visited countless exhibitions but also carefully saved the programs and catalogs. I also had the strange habit of storing reviews published in magazines or newspapers. In this way, I became something like one of those soccer fans who, after going to a game, buy the newspaper the next day to read the report on what they had already seen. Collecting reports eventually made me a strange person among my relatives. Every visit became a search for newspapers or magazines in the hope of finding an article on art to cut out and keep (at that time, the digital world did not exist as it does now). My art fever lasted about four or five years, during which time, with a few gaps, I was able to travel through all the avant-garde movements of the early 20th century. --- >Fueron años en los que no sólo visité numerosísimas exposiciones sino que además, guardé con celo los programas y catálogos. >También tuve la extraña costumbre de almacenar las reseñas que se publicaban en revistas o periódicos. Until I reached a point where I became overwhelmed by so many visits to exhibitions, and few things surprised me anymore (the negative effect of so much excess). A large part of contemporary art began to seem like a scam to me, so visits to museums or exhibitions over the decades have been limited to one or two visits a year to the Prado Museum. A place without deception or pretense. Unlike contemporary art in Dadaism, Surrealism, Constructivism, Futurism, etc., in all the “isms” there was a canon, everything had meaning (at least for an average punk teenager like me). It wasn't a canon based on proportions like the Greek one, but there was a rule. --- >Hasta que llegó un momento en el que me saturé de tanta visita a exposiciones, pocas cosas llegaban a sorprenderme (el efecto negativo de tanto exceso). >Una inmensa parte del arte contemporáneo comenzó a parecerme una estafa, por lo que las visitas a museos o exposiciones durante décadas han quedado limitadas a una visita o dos cada año al Museo Prado. Un lugar sin trampa ni cartón. >A diferencia del arte contemporáneo en el dadaismmo, el surrealismo, el constructivismo, el futurismo, etc., en todos los ismos hubo canon, todo tenía un sentido (al menos para un adolescente medio punk, como yo). No era un canon basado en las proporciones como el griego, pero había norma.

Today, on the contrary, what is absent is the norm, so the guide's explanation, as in bad jokes, is too often necessary to understand what many artists are unable to communicate through their work. --- >Hoy, al contrario, lo que está ausente es la norma, por lo que la explicación del guía, como en los chistes malos, se hace necearia rn demasiadas ocasiones para entenser lo que muchos artistas son incapace de comunicar con su obra.

It is undeniable that the constructivists, the early Bauhaus period, and the Dadaists had a profound impact on me. They changed the way I see art and, I would say, the way I see the world. I love the irreverence of Dadaism, the fusion of craftsmanship with the industrial processes of the Bauhaus and the constructivists, although in this case, my idolatry for science has faded over the years. I adore Popova and Rodchenko. I discovered Rodchenko's work in an exhibition entitled **Rodchenko Photographer: Revolution in the Gaze** (Rodchenko fotógrafo: Revolución en la mirada). I will recycle the title, and in doing so, this publication will earn the label of sustainable: **Rodchenko's gaze**, to say that it is brutal. As the philosopher would say: it is art with a hammer. --- >Es innegable que los constructivistas, la primera época de la Bauhaus y ... los dadaístas me golpearon bien fuerte en el alma. >Cambiaron mi forma de ver el arte y podría decir que de ver el mundo. Amo la irreverencia del dadaísmo, la fusión de la artesanía con los prcesos industrilaes de la Bauhaus y de los constructivistas, aunque en este caso, mi idolatría por la cienca se fue apagando con el paso de los años. >Adoro a Popova y a Rodchenko. Conocí la obra de Rodchenko en una exposición titulada **Rodchenko fotógrafo: Revolución en la mirada**. >Reciclaré el título y, ya de paso, esta publicación se ganará la etiqueta de sostenible: la **mirada de Rodchenko** para decir que es brutual. Como diría el filósofo: es arte a martillazos.

The exhibition **Berlin. Meeting Point** (Brelin: punto de encuentro) was more than just an interesting stroll. Not only because of the work on display, but also because of what the title implied. We like to categorize reality, name artistic movements, and isolate them from one another. In short, we like to divide what we see in the hope of understanding it better. However, **Meeting Point** offered numerous examples of how these compartmentalized divisions, created for convenience, never existed. Many artists did not limit themselves to following one “ism” but participated in several at the same time. For example, an artist could be part of both constructivism and futurism. At the same time, artists from different “isms” could maintain regular correspondence, exchanging points of view even though they did not belong to the same “ism.” --- >La exposición **Berlin. **Dada and Constructivism** (Dada y constructivismo) addressed this topic, the porosity that existed between the different avant-garde movements. With **Breton and Surrealism** (Breton y el surrealismo), two wishes came true. The first was to see a good collection of surrealist works, and the second was to see an original work by Maggriet up close. --- >Con **Bretón y el surrealismo** se cumplieron dos deseos. **From Picasso to Pollock** (De Picasso a Pollock) is perhaps one of the most disappointing exhibitions I have ever seen. Not bad... disappointing. On the positive side, seeing a great Pollock in person; on the negative side... the lack of coherence in the exhibition. I don't remember finding the common thread that links Picasso and Pollock. --- >**De Picasso a Pollok**, es quizás una de la exposiciones más decepcionates de las que he visto, no mala... decepcionante. Marc Chagall was one of the “friends of the Bauhaus.” His work is a delight so close to the world of dreams... I could go on and on writing about each artist and each exhibition, but the aim here is to present a collection. On this occasion, a beautiful collection of papers... A journey back to my adolescence, a journey back to a passion that I have been rediscovering since I arrived at Hive. You will see Goya on the lower floors... because when talking about the avant-garde... he couldn't be left out. A couple of more recent exhibitions have not been forgotten either, proof that the passion for art has returned, more serene, but it has returned here... traveling through Hive. --- >Podría seguir, y seguir, escribiendo sobre cada artista y cada exposición, pero se trata de presentar una colección.
