Esta pieza consta de dos caras: por un lado lleva la talla de una calavera de cuervo, que es la que estaré mostrando en este post. This piece has two sides: one features a carved raven skull, which I'll be showcasing in this post. Warm greetings to the entire wonderful Alien Art community. It's been a while since I've posted here, but today I'm sharing another bone carving I recently completed. This piece has two sides: one features a carved raven skull, which I'll be showcasing in this post. I've documented the process in four basic stages,

and at the end, I'll show you the tool I use for these carvings.

Here is the bone, already prepared for carving.

(I promise, as soon as I can, to write a post about how to prepare the bone for this task.) We begin by making a drawing that outlines the general lines where we will start carving the bone, in order to create contrast and achieve relief.

En este paso, ya delineado el contorno y parte de las zonas que estarán más profundas, me gusta volver a realizar un boceto sobre la talla para no perder el horizonte en el frenesí del trabajo. Y, por supuesto, siempre teniendo en cuenta no quitar material de donde no se debe.	At this stage, with the outline and some of the deeper areas already defined, I like to make another sketch over the carving to avoid losing sight of the overall plan in the frenzy of the work. And, of course, always being careful not to remove material where it shouldn't be removed.

En este paso, ya delineado el contorno y parte de las zonas que estarán más profundas, me gusta volver a realizar un boceto sobre la talla para no perder el horizonte en el frenesí del trabajo. Y, por supuesto, siempre teniendo en cuenta no quitar material de donde no se debe.

At this stage, with the outline and some of the deeper areas already defined, I like to make another sketch over the carving to avoid losing sight of the overall plan in the frenzy of the work.

Los relieves del hueso están casi terminados. La parte que no corresponde a la osamenta del cuervo ha sido rebajada; no se nota a simple vista, pero tiene aproximadamente 0.5 mm (alrededor de 0.02 pulgadas) de desbaste en toda la superficie. Todavía faltan algunos detalles para perfilar la pieza	The bone reliefs are almost finished. The portion that doesn't correspond to the raven's skeleton has been thinned; it's not noticeable to the naked eye, but it has approximately 0.5 mm (about 0.02 inches) of roughing across the entire surface. Some details still need to be added to complete the piece.

Esta es la talla de la osamenta de cuervo ya trabajada; aún falta aplicarle la textura que me pidió el cliente. Literalmente, debo realizarle un texturizado de huecos para generar contraste (según el cliente, esto mejora el relieve de la pieza).	I had already begun carving the other side of the bone, which I will show in another post. This is the finished carving of the raven skeleton; it still needs the texture the client requested. I literally need to create a textured effect with recesses to generate contrast (according to the client, this improves the piece's relief).

Aquí ya había comenzado a tallar la otra cara del hueso, la cual mostraré en otro post.
Esta es la talla de la osamenta de cuervo ya trabajada; aún falta aplicarle la textura que me pidió el cliente.

Literalmente, debo realizarle un texturizado de huecos para generar contraste (según el cliente, esto mejora el relieve de la pieza).

I had already begun carving the other side of the bone, which I will show in another post.

This is the finished carving of the raven skeleton; it still needs the texture the client requested.

I literally need to create a textured effect with recesses to generate contrast (according to the client, this improves the piece's relief).

Esta es la herramienta que uso para tallar hueso. Es vieja y se calienta bastante, pero cumple su función. Necesito comprar un mandril adaptable para poder usar otras brocas y también tallar vidrio y madera.	This is the tool I use for carving bone. It's old and gets quite hot, but it does the job. I need to buy an adaptable chuck so I can use other drill bits and also carve glass and wood.
