As with nearly every aspect of life, when it comes to tattoos I was a late-bloomer. I didn’t get my first one until I was forty-five years old. Despite getting that late start I’ve made up for lost time.

I first went under the needle in September of 2016, just before my first overseas trip to Amsterdam. The tattoo is a Buddha on my left shoulder representing the Flower Sermon.

About a year later, in April of 2017, I decided to get a mandala with the flower of life pattern running behind it. I got this piece just before my second overseas trip to Lisbon for SteemFest2. Due to the thick lines and extensive shading, this was the most painful tattoo I’ve gotten and took the longest to heal. This was a solid four hours in the chair.

My third time in the chair was in April of 2018. It is a lotus connected to a clock face with the Om symbol at 3, 6, 9, and 12 o’clock. This was my first partial sleeve.

Number four came in October of 2023. This was the completion of my second partial sleeve, a continuation of the first tattoo I got in 2016.

My last (but maybe not final) tattoo was from January of 2025. This time I decided to go with the finer-line style, made famous by the L.A. Tatooist, Dr. Woo.

Each of these pieces hold significant meaning for me and mark important milestones that have happened in my life. Do I regret getting any of them? Absolutely not. There have been a few instances where people have judged me for having them but, overall, the experience has been great.

This art is now a part of me and it seems weird at this point to imagine living without them.

All for now. Thanks for reading.
