¡Hola amigos lectores! En el día de hoy me gustaría hablarles acerca de un libro que tenía ganas de leer hace un tiempo y como un amigo me lo presto aproveche la ocasión para hacerlo y acá les traigo la reseña de ***1984*** de George Orwell.
>Hello, readers! Today I would like to talk to you about a book I've been wanting to read for a while. A friend lent it to me, so I took the opportunity to do so, and here I bring you my review of George Orwell's ***1984***.
En este libro nos encontraremos con un gobierno totalitario que controla y manipula a todos sus miembros haciendo que crean y tomen como una verdad incuestionable todo lo que les dicen. Ahí entra en acción el protagonista, Winston Smith, un hombre de mediana edad que pertenece al Partido, pero que empezó a cuestionarse lo que está sucediendo y las verdades que les imponen. Aunque sabe que está cometiendo un crimen tan solo con pensarlo, no puede dejar de hacerlo y tiene más que claro que es cuestión de tiempo antes de que la Policía del Pensamiento venga por él y lo desaparezca. No importa qué tan cuidadoso sea, cuando el "Gran Hermano" está vigilando las pantallas 24/7 siempre estará en peligro de ser descubierto.
>In this book, we encounter a totalitarian government that controls and manipulates all its members, making them believe and accept as unquestionable truth everything they are told. This is where the protagonist, Winston Smith, comes in. He is a middle-aged man who belongs to the Party, but who has begun to question what is happening and the truths that are imposed on them. Although he knows that just thinking about it is a crime, he cannot stop himself, and he is well aware that it is only a matter of time before the Thought Police come for him and make him disappear. No matter how careful he is, when “Big Brother” is watching the screens 24/7, he will always be in danger of being discovered.
Es uno de esos clásicos que tenía pendiente hace rato, pero no fue hasta este año que expresé mi deseo y acá estamos. Se ve que era el momento adecuado. El libro refleja una realidad bastante atemporal, es fácil encontrar similitudes en lo que pasa en cualquier país con un gobierno totalitario que busca controlar a la población. Esto hace que también sea un libro muy reflexivo, te hace pensar en cómo podemos caer ante los mecanismos de control y la manipulación, si bien siento que esto puede variar, es más o menos parecido en todas las ocasiones y siguen el mismo patrón, mantener a la sociedad bajo control, vigilada, y hasta con miedo de cuestionar cosas porque saben que traerá consecuencias.
>It's one of those classics that I'd been meaning to read for a while, but it wasn't until this year that I expressed my desire to do so, and here we are. It seems that the time was right. The book reflects a fairly timeless reality; it's easy to find similarities in what happens in any country with a totalitarian government that seeks to control the population. This also makes it a very thought-provoking book, making you think about how we can fall prey to mechanisms of control and manipulation. Although I feel that this can vary, it is more or less the same in all cases and follows the same pattern: keeping society under control, monitored, and even afraid to question things because they know it will have consequences.
En todo este panorama tenemos al personaje de Winston que intenta salirse de la norma al imponer sus propias ideas y pensamientos por sobre las del Partido, esto no es lo que quiere el gobierno y él lo sabe, está preparado para el momento en que lo vengan a buscar. Aun así, no deja de intentar tener libertad y ser el dueño de su propia vida. Pero no importa todo lo que haga para que no lo descubran, las pantallas siempre están vigilando y atentas a cualquier movimiento sospechoso.
>In this whole scenario, we have the character of Winston, who tries to break the mold by imposing his own ideas and thoughts over those of the Party. This is not what the government wants, and he knows it. He is prepared for the moment when they come looking for him. Even so, he never stops trying to be free and in control of his own life. But no matter what he does to avoid being discovered, the screens are always watching, alert to any suspicious movement.
Además, es interesante ver en la historia cómo los más fieles a este sistema autoritario son los más jóvenes y vulnerables, entonces nos muestran cómo hasta los mismos hijos pequeños denuncian a sus padres por tener pensamientos cuestionables. Ya vienen con la cabeza lavada desde chiquitos y creen que su trabajo es ese, hacer de espías. Son los soldados perfectos. Me impactó mucho leer este tipo de comportamiento en el libro. Y lo peor es el sabor agridulce del final. Fue bastante desolador, ya que te muestra una realidad que puede ser cercana. Al final no importa lo que hagas, si saben a dónde apuntar terminas sediento tarde o temprano y volves a ser parte del rebaño.
>Furthermore, it is interesting to see in the story how the most loyal to this authoritarian system are the youngest and most vulnerable, showing us how even young children denounce their parents for having questionable thoughts. They are brainwashed from an early age and believe that their job is to spy on others. They are the perfect soldiers. I was very shocked to read about this type of behavior in the book. And the worst part is the bittersweet ending. It was quite devastating, as it shows you a reality that could be close to home. In the end, it doesn't matter what you do, if they know where to aim, you'll end up thirsty sooner or later and become part of the herd again.
Es un muy buen libro, te hace reflexionar y cuestionar cosas, pero entiendo que no es una lectura para todos, ya que puede resultar un poco duro de leer. Además, también es una lectura un tanto pesada, ya que hay bastante monologo interno y cuesta meterse de lleno en la historia desde un principio. Sin embargo, considero que vale la pena el esfuerzo y bueno, ya es otro clásico pendiente que taché de mi lista. Así que se los recomiendo si les llama la atención.
>It's a very good book, it makes you reflect and question things, but I understand that it's not for everyone, as it can be a bit difficult to read. It's also a bit heavy going, as there's quite a lot of internal monologue and it's hard to get fully into the story from the beginning. However, I think it's worth the effort, and well, it's another classic I've crossed off my list. So I recommend it if it catches your attention.
