Las week I was visiting my dad and every time I'm there, I visit his neighbors too. This visit is not just to say hi, I also visit the rabbits and the two pigs they have. It's a privilege for me as living in a city doesn't give you the chance to get close to livestock, so I'm using these occasion to see how they grow and also, to take photos.
Yes, to take photos and also practice taking photos of animals. Those who have never done a photo shoot of animals think it's an easy job, but it's not. I'd say it's more difficult that photographing kids as you can capture the kid's attention for a moment or two, you can tell them to stay put and they may listen for a minute, but animals don't understand you and don't care either. So at the end of the day, your success depends on your ability of coping with the situation, finding a way to capture these moving little devils.
Meet Erika, not only my namesake, but she was named after me ๐๐๐ฐ I've posted about her this year and was really happy to have another occasion to see her.
At first, I tried to photograph her between the planks and this is what I got.
Even though she is wearing my name, we are not friends. I mean I consider her my friend, but she doesn't feel the same. She doesn't trust me.
I tried to get close to her and she was ok with it, till ...
You see, she had something on her nose. I tried to take it off, clean it off, but she did not like it and tried to put her paw on my hand, not exactly on a friendly way.
I can't blame her honestly. Most likely I'd have had the same reaction, if a total stranger would have wanted to touch my nose.
Look at her, how cute she is.
Then there was this white cutie pie with red eyes, less friendly though.
Then there was this cutie, the hardest to photograph. I had to delete 4 photos as this is the only usable I have left with. She almost didn't fit in the frame as she was constantly moving.
Then there were these two ๐ eager to get attention and some petting.
Look at that look! They were both coming towards me and I had a hard time positioning myself as I didn't know how far they can reach with their nose and was afraid they can reach my camera.
Not the best photo, but look at that face ๐ I suppose they were hoping to get some food.
This was the other one, very curious about what I was doing. He was trying to touch me with his nose. Last time I wasn't fast enough and he got to me, touched my jeans and had to wash them.
Look at that cute face. How can you be mad at them? Contrary to the rabbits, the pigs were more friendly and I was the one needing to protect myself from him, not because I was afraid, but because I wanted to keep my camera safe and protect my clothes too.
At the beginning of my post I mentioned that you need to be smart and find a way to be able to take half decent photos. I was thinking how you can do that, but the only way is to anticipate their move. I know, this is a hit or miss type of action, but can't see another one. If you stay with them for longer, you can take some decent shots, but I didn't want to keep the neighbor up, so this is what I could do. The rest of the photos are not the quality you can post in this community, so most likely they are going to hit the bin.
Now let's see who do you like the most, rabbits or pigs? or both? Let me know in a comment.
