Today I'd like to show you some amazing sculptures that I've been saving as these are the last photos I took at he solo exhibition of Vince Bocskay, an exceptional talent in sculpture, with some statues and compositions you've never seen before.
If you've missed my previous posts about the exhibition, you can still go back and check them out here and here. I suggest you do it as it worth it.
Stranger - 1975
He has these oversized feminine statues, which may not be the silhouette that is hyped today, but we're talking about art, so sky is the limit and everything is possible. Only the narrow minded people don't know that, or don't want to see it.
One thing I admire about the artist, apart from his amazing talent is his ability to use a great variety of materials. We've seen stone, clay, metal (or steal?) and now wood.
This was a religious series. I think it's a series as all three pieces are about the cross.
The Road Of The Cross
Yes, they say crossroad, but if you look at the Hungarian and Romanian title, it's not crossroad, it's the road of the cross, which means a totally different thing. Anyway, I had a close look of the sculpture and can confirm, it was carved out of a single piece of wood. You need to have a good 3D vision, to create this pattern, which most likely symbolizes the rocky and bumpy road up to the cross.
Good Friday - 2025
I'm not very religious and the cross is not a prominent part of my religion, but as an artwork I like it. Look at the cloth on the cross.
The Mark Of The Cross - 2023
This was another amazing sculpture. I should have taken a another shot from the side, for you to see the surface is not straight, but wavy.
Forgotten Poet - 1984
Not only forgotten, but blind as well.
You could see the texture of the cloth. I don't know if this was intentional or this is how it should be, but it looks good.
Smile - 1982
The smile that makes you smile and you are going to see why.
Look at that face, how can you not smile?
Ferenc Dávid - 2020
I must confess, I had no idea who Ferenc Dávid was, except, judging from the look, maybe a hunch that he lived in the middle ages.
Ferenc Dávid (also rendered as Francis David or Francis Davidis; born as Franz David Hertel, c. 1520 – 15 November 1579) was a preacher and theologian from Transylvania, the founder of the Unitarian Church of Transylvania, and the leading figure of the Nontrinitarian Christian movements during the Protestant Reformation. He disputed the mainstream Christian doctrine of the Trinity, believing God to be one and indivisible.
Well, I wasn't completely wrong.
Hetaira - 2021
This was a bit of a shock to be honest.
If this is how hetairas looked like back then, that means Greeks had a strange taste, but we know the artist liked satire.
If you don't know who the hetairas were, here it is:
A hetaira was a type of highly educated female companion in ancient Greece who served as an artist, entertainer, and conversationalist. Historians have often classed them as courtesans, but the extent to which they were sex workers is a matter of dispute.
Head With Turban - 1981
At this point I am convinced that most, if not all the statues, sculptures take the visitors back to the past. Some are from ancient times, some from the middle ages. Most likely history means a lot to the artist. Not a bad thing though.
Outlook - 2015
This is where the fun begins.
Dispute - 2016
I'm not sure if this was meant to be a series made of two pieces, but it doesn't matter. It's funny. I love the colors, that green on copper has always been my favorite.
Solitudo - 2019
Magdalene - 2019
Sándor - 1975
Looking at this statue, I'm expecting the man to open his eyes and look at me. If this work doesn't convince you of the artist's talent, then nothing will.
Sleeping Muse - 2019
I told you it's going to be fun :)
Profane Resurrection - 2017
This is it of this exhibition and I truly hope you have some favorites here. let me know in a comment.
